Canines are welcome here as long as they remain on a leash no more than 10 feet long and provided that there is not a public program or special event in progress. Bring your furry friend with you and hike through the woods and savannah in this 818-acre paradise. There are several trails, ranging from 0.5 to 2.6 miles in length, that you and Fido can explore together.

Parkrise Estates

Located next to Indian Oaks Park in the Marengo Park District, Parkrise Estates provides convenient access to nature trails and open spaces. You and your pup can hike through the area as long as Fido is on a leash and you clean up any messes. Take advantage of over 40 acres of trails or bring your pooch with you for a picnic in the park. Don't forget to pack some water so your pup isn't panting so hard on those long trails. Oh, and you'll want to bring a camera to capture some of the pawesome views you'll get along the way!

Somerset

Situated about 5 miles from downtown Marengo, Somerset is a pupcredible location for you and your canine pal. When you want to get out and stretch your legs with your pooch, head to Coral Woods Conservation Area. With 3 trail options, you and Fido will be able to hike through areas that include Oak and Maple woodlands, open savannah, and glacial moraine. Just remember to keep your pup on a lead that’s no longer than 10 feet long and to pick up any droppings. Head down the road a few miles to the KOA Campground for a family vacation with your furry friend. Dogs are allowed on leashes up to 6 feet long in this facility.

Union

Union is a small village just east of Marengo. This little community offers pup-friendly Airbnb accommodations for you and Fido. When you’re in the area, head out to Siems Memorial Park and take advantage of the puptastic scenery. As with other parks in the Marengo area, be sure to keep your pooch on a leash. After a stroll around the lake in the park, head into the village for a bite to eat at Clasen’s Tavern. As a dog-friendly restaurant, Clasen’s welcomes canine companions at the outdoor tables. Woodstock

If you’re looking for some canine playtime for your pal, head out to Bull Valley Dog Park in Woodstock. This 7-acre facility is fenced so that your pooch can run and play off leash with other pups. The park is open year-round and requires an annual permit. When Fido is done socializing with other four-footed pals, leash up and hike the trails in the adjacent Savannah Restoration area. In town, you can take your furry friend for a leash walk on one of the recreation trails in Emricson Park, Merryman Fields Park, or McConnell Road Park. Finish your outing at Ethereal Confections. This sweet shop offers outdoor seating that is dog-friendly. Sip your tea or coffee and enjoy a pastry, bar, or other special treat with your faithful companion at your feet.
