South Rockford
If you enjoy flowers and nature, chances are your dog won’t mind them either, so consider making the 30-minute trip to South Rockford. Rockford is home to Klehm Arboretum and Botanic Garden, a former nursery that you can now explore with your dog. There are beautiful plants to see and several walking paths running throughout the gardens, so make sure to bring a camera along with you to snap some pictures. Fido is required to be on a leash at all times, and you’re responsible for cleaning up after him; waste disposal bags aren’t provided.

Central Dekalb
Dekalb, located about 15 minutes south of Genoa, is home to Katz Dog Park – but don’t let the name fool you; you probably don’t want to bring your cat here. This large, off-leash dog park has plenty of room for your dog to run around and get in his daily exercise, all while having fun with you and his new friends. There are separate sections for large and small dogs. Katz Dog Park also has water fountains for your pup to stay cool, and there’s even plenty of seating for dog parents. Waste receptacles are available for patrons to use.

East Rockford
Located in East Rockford, about 25 minutes from Genoa, is Elliot Dog Park, where your pup is sure to have a pawesome time! This off-leash dog park has two separate areas, one for larger dogs and another for smaller dogs, but don’t let that fool you; there’s still plenty of room for your dog to run around and burn off some pent-up energy. There’s also seating for dog parents to take a breather while their pooch plays. It can get quite muddy after it rains, so keep that in mind. Waste disposal bags are not provided, so you’ll need to bring your own.12

Central
Lake in the Hills, located about 30 minutes outside of Genoa, is home to the aptly named Lake in the Hills Dog Park, where your dog is sure to have a ball! Although this dog park requires membership to use, locals insist it’s definitely worth it. There are separate areas for large dogs and small dogs, allowing your dog to feel comfortable around pups his own size. There’s also plenty of shade and seating for dog parents, so you can take a breather while your pup explores with his new friends.

Downtown Genoa
If you want to eat somewhere with your best four-legged pal in tow, look no further than the heart of Genoa! Crumpet’s, a local lunch spot and bakery, has 3 outdoor, dog-friendly tables so you can eat while your pup is with you. Crumpet’s serves sandwiches, salads, and more alongside delicious pastries including cinnamon rolls and, of course, their namesake: crumpets! Locals recommend getting a cup of tea along with a classic salad. Crumpet’s has limited hours and is closed on Monday and Sunday, so keep that in mind. A leash is required for Fido to join you.
