The National Road Bikeway is one of the key features in Saint Clairsville, and is a great place to get some exercise with your pup. The bike path follows along an old railroad track and provides beautiful views of trees and local plant life. As you ride or walk along the path, you will travel through a rail tunnel that’s 532 feet long. The unique tunnel features lights so you and your pup can see the interesting architecture. The entire bike path travels about 2.5 miles from the Junior Sports Complex all the way to the Saginaw Mine, giving you and your pup time to stretch your legs and enjoy the fresh air.

The Inn is just a few minutes from the Ohio Valley Mall, and eight miles from the Wheeling Downs Racetrack. Another option in the area is the Residence Inn. Your pooch is welcome for an extra fee, and the rooms are spacious when traveling with Fido and the kids. If you need a pup-friendly place for dinner, Chipotle Mexican Grill offers pooch-friendly outdoor tables where you can relax with Fido and enjoy your meal.

Ten miles southwest of Saint Clairsville, the Barkcamp State Park is located in East Belmont. The park features 1,005 acres of woodlands, grassy meadows, and a beautiful lake. Fido will have a furtastic time romping and roaming through the area sniffing all the trees and local plants. There is a pooch-friendly campground where you can pitch a tent, and you will need to keep Fido on a leash while walking around the campground. A variety of hiking trails offer both short and long walks, depending on your energy level and how much exercise you and your pup want to enjoy. The small pond is often filled with geese, so be sure to keep your pooch on a leash. If you are out with the kids, the playground is well-maintained, and you and Fido can relax on a bench and watch the children. Take a trip over to Morrisville and enjoy some local history at the Egypt Valley Wildlife Area off Interstate 70. Just fifteen miles northwest of Saint Clairsville, you and your pup can spend the day hiking through the area down to the old quarry where coal surface mining ended in the 1990’s. The primitive trails are a great place to see wildlife and let your pup run through the grass and sniff the plants, but be sure to keep him on a leash. If you like to fish, stop by the lake and relax with your fishing pole while Fido plays with his toys or takes a nap. You may also want to take your pup for a walk through the legendary Salem Cemetery in the middle of the area that locals insist is frequented by ghosts.
