Hello! My name is Miranda and I would love to help out with your pup! I have been a dog owner my whole life and currently own a senior Yorkshire Terrier. Desloge is a tiny town, but there are plenty of activities nearby for a person and a canine pal. Desloge does not have any veterinarians, but nearby towns like Park Hills and Farmington have several clinics. The city has two small parks which give a person and a leashed dog some green space and fresh air.
The best opportunities for outdoor exercise can be found at one of the two state parks less than ten miles away from Desloge. St. Francois State Park is nine miles north of Desloge. This 2,700-acre recreation area is a pawpular spot for canoe floats to access the Big River. It also has a campground (for both tent and electric camping) and three hiking trails. These range in length from 2.75 miles (Mooner's Hollow Trail) to 10.25 miles long (Pike Run Trail). All trails in St. Francois are rated as moderate to rugged in difficulty.
St. Joe State Park is five miles south of Desloge. Its four trails include two easy trails. The Paved Bicycle Trail traverses 3.75 miles that are paved and wheelchair-accessible. Pine Ridge Trail is 12.6 miles in length with a backpack camp for a real back-to-nature experience with a furry companion. Missouri State Parks are dog-friendly and permit dogs in the campgrounds and on the trails as long as they are on a leash no longer than ten feet.
Farmington is located ten miles south of Desloge. Farmington Dog Park gives dogs a woof-derful experience free of the leash! Two fully fenced areas -- one for large dogs and one for small -- have plenty of sweet smelling grass for Fido to play in. Several pieces of agility equipment add to the fun. Water is available on-site, and waste stations supplied with doggie waste baggies make those necessary pick-ups a breeze. The human companions have benches to sit on and watch their furbabies sniff out some new pals. This dog park is open from dawn to dusk. No fees or registration are required to use the park -- all are welcome!
Fredericktown is located twenty-eight miles south of Desloge. Numerous dog-friendly restaurants make this town the pawfect place to bring a furry family member! Lalo's Mexican Grill on Jennifer Street has dog-friendly patio dining. The menu includes traditional Mexican entrees, and the fried ice cream soothes the spicy main course with a sweet ending. For some tangy spare ribs or a burger, the Pig BBQ on State Hwy OO is the place to go. Two outdoor tables will let you and your four-legged dining companion share a meal. If you're staying in Fredericktown, the Madison Inn Lodge offers a dog-friendly room for up to two dogs of any size. A fee of $15 per dog per night is charged.
Herculaneum is located thirty-five miles north of Desloge. All Bark Village makes dogs howl with joy when that leash comes off and playtime begins! Small dogs have their own separately fenced space for safer fun. A large pavilion sits in the middle of the dog park, where the human companions can congregate in the shade. A concrete slab has a hose that is handy for a rinse off. In the summertime, the kiddie pools come out for a splashin' good time. Specially designed water fountains let people drink at the top while their pup laps up on the bottom. This dog park is free and open to the public.
Ste. Genevieve is located thirty-seven miles east of Desloge. Fleur de Lis Dog Park is as colorful as its name suggests. This dog park was a labor of love by the community. It began as an Eagle Scout project, and soon, the whole city took part in making it a truly beautiful place to take a pup to play. The city donated old tires and drainage pipes, and with a paint can and an artist's touch, pup playground equipment was created. The dog park itself is a fenced, grassy space where all dogs can play together. A single yellow bench, sans shade, gives people a place to sit and watch their pups make a new canine buddy. No fees or registration is required to use the dog park.
Arnold is located forty-seven miles north of Desloge. The city has two Paw Parks which are pawfect for leash-free exercise and socialization. One is located in City Park and the other at the Ferd B. Lang Park. These identically designed dog parks have all the space a dog needs to stretch their paws in the grass. Separate fenced areas are also provided for the small breeds. The dog parks feature drinking water, waste stations with necessary supplies, and plenty of shaded benches for the comfort of the human companions. The dog parks are free and do not require any registration to visit.
