Smyre
Located less than two miles north of Lowell, just outside of Gastonia’s Smyre neighborhood, you and Fido can enjoy playing at George Poston Dog Park. This bark park is located towards the back of George Poston Park. There are two separate sections. For smaller dogs, there’s a one-acre area where your dime-sized doggie can enjoy some off-leash exercise. For larger dogs, there’s an area that’s four-and-a-half acres. Both areas are fenced-in, so you can be sure your dog won’t get too far away from you. Whether your dog is small or large, please bring along waste bags to clean up after him.

Greenwood Pl/Armstrong Dr
Belmont’s beautiful park, Goat Island Park and Greenway, is located just under four miles from Lowell. Your dog is welcome to explore the entire park with you, but for most of the adventure, he’ll need to be on his leash. Goat Island Park and Greenway’s hidden secret? A dog park! Located near the back of the park is a completely fenced-in, off-leash dog park where your pooch can get some unrestrained exercise. You’ll want to make sure you bring along water and waste bags, as none are provided. You can also bring along a toy or two, as long as your dog doesn’t mind sharing.

Catawba Heights
Looking for another fun dog park to visit with Fido? Consider making the 15-minute drive to Mount Holly! The Catawba Heights neighborhood is home to Tuckaseege Dog Park. This park is open from dawn to dusk, so you have plenty of time to play. Before heading to the fenced-in, off-leash dog park, check out the walking trail that runs through Tuckaseege Park. It’s nearly a mile long, and it will take you past the dog park to a beautiful overlook. Wanting to get in some exercise alongside your pup? You’ve found the perfect place!

There are plenty of trails winding through the park; some are made for beginner hikers, while others have more proficient hikers in mind. Fido will need to stay on his leash while you’re in the park, but that’s more for his own safety. You’ll need to make sure you clean up after your pet, and you’ll want to have plenty of water on hand.

Mountain Brook
Wanting to grab a bite to eat and bring Fido along? No problem! Head to Gastonia’s Mountain Brook neighborhood, which is only about 15 minutes east of Lowell.
