The Washington Drive neighborhood, in the town of Huntington north of Islip Terrace, offers a fantastic hike for you and your pup. The Nathan Hale Trail winds through town and out into nature for a total of 10 miles! For more adventures, head to the Betty Allen Twin Ponds Nature Preserve. You and Fifi will find beautiful, well-maintained paths for walking around the pond, offering nature viewing at its finest. Take the short loop and read the educational information along the way. If you like to fish, grab your pole and throw in a line in their trout-stocked ponds.

Otsego Park, in the town of Huntington Station, is a pawtastic place for you and your pup to spend some quality time together. This park offers tons of open spaces to let pup roam on leash. There are fourteen sports fields, tennis courts, and a roller hockey rink where you and pup can watch the action! This is a great place to relax with your fur-ever friend, or fly a kite on a warm summer day. There are restroom facilities on-site, so all you need to bring are mutt mitts to keep this park pristine.

Long Island Avenue
Hiking anyone? The Long Island Avenue neighborhood, northwest of Islip Terrace in the town of Deer Park, is a great place for you and your pup to get in some exercise together. The Edgewood Oak Brush Plains Preserve offers a 3.2-mile loop through wildflower fields, just perfect for enjoying nature. This is a lightly-traveled trail, and is considered easy for most folks and pups. It is shared with mountain bikers, so plan accordingly. There are also numerous trails that intersect and intertwine with this loop, so there are endless combinations of adventures to fill any day. Enjoy!

Crooked Hill Road
The Crooked Hill Road neighborhood of the town of Brentwood, west of Islip Terrace, is a pawtastic location to head to with your fur-ever friend. The Brentwood State Park has endless amounts of open space to wander with pup on its 52 acres of land. While pup stretches his legs, be sure to keep him on leash. You can catch a game on their ball fields, or relax by the kiddie playground. It is important to bring mutt mitts and pack plenty of water. Restroom facilities are onsite. How about a sharing a picnic lunch to end a perfect day?
Connetquot Avenue
The Connetquot Avenue neighborhood of Islip Terrace offers dog-friendly outdoor recreation at its Connetquot River State Park Preserve. There are trails galore for the hiking-enthusiastic pup. It is part of the Long Island Greenbelt System of trails which offers over 50 miles of shared trails for walking and horseback riding, and cross-country skiing in the winter. There are also nature trails along the Connetquot River. For a short hike, take the 3-mile-loop trail which is appropriate for all skill levels. It is best to pack plenty of water and food, and be prepared to keep your pup on leash here.
