This neighborhood is home to the Edgewood Oak Brush Plains Preserve, an 813-acre park just waiting to be explored. Leash up your pup and head over so she can get in some doggy cardio. The Edgewood Blue Hiking Trail is the main loop and clocks in at 2.7 miles through a beautiful pine forest. You can also walk your pooch around the 12 miles of paved bike paths, just keep in mind that you’ll be sharing the trail with cyclists. Your pooch won’t be the only critter in the preserve; birds, rabbits, and fox all call this place home.

Looking for a pawsome place to walk your dog? Pack up your pooch and head over to the Belmont Lake State Park. This park is conveniently located in North Babylon, a quick 10 minute drive from Deer Park. Your pup will have a tail waggin’ time as he trots around the lake and gets his heart rate pumping. There are 7.6 miles of trails that weave throughout the park, so you’ll have plenty of mileage for walking your pal. This park also features sport courts, ball fields, and boat rentals. Since dogs are not allowed in the picnic facilities or buildings, make sure you and your pup stick to the trails and natural areas.

Argyle Park

Argyle Park

If your canine companion is itching for a walk, make your way over to the Argyle Lake Park. Since this is a pup-ular spot for dog walkers, your pal will have the chance to meet some new four legged friends. Follow the paved path around the lake so your pooch can stretch his four legs. Be sure to check out the waterfalls and the gardens. After your walk, stop by Kilwin’s Chocolates for an ice cream cone or some gooey fudge. Get your treats to go, or hang out with your pup on the outside bench.

Melville

Melville

When Deer Park dogs want to let loose, they head over to the West Hills County Dog Park. This off leash area is located inside the West Hills County Park in the nearby town of Melville. Your pooch can ditch her leash and romp around with new four legged friends. There’s plenty of room for a game of chase or fetch. Benches and clean up bags are provided, and large trees give the canines some nice afternoon shade. All this fun does have a price; there is a weekend admission fee between Memorial Day and Labor Day. If you’d rather save your pennies, there are some puptastic trails in the main park area that welcome leashed pets.

It’s easy to see why local canines go mutts over the Blydenburgh Dog Park. This off leash area is tucked away inside Blydenburgh County Park in Smithtown. It spreads across two acres, giving four legged visitors room to dart and dash around. Since part of the park is in a wooded area, your pup’s sniffer will keep busy as he tries to located the resident squirrels. Large and small dog sections are available, as are water fountains, benches, and clean up bags. When your dog is finished playing, clip on his leash and check out the trails in the main park. This park will definitely make your pal a happy hound!
