Altamira West Number 2 Colonia
This excellent neighborhood features the Edinburg Bicentennial Park. It’s large enough that you can walk your dog there without having to do a bunch of laps just to eat up time. There’s plenty to see, from wide open fields to a playground, so the walk will be interesting for your dog and you! It’s a great daytime destination; you can enjoy the picnic areas or spend some time getting back to your roots in the grass. Dogs have to stay on leash in the park. There are fountains for water, just remember to bring your own bowl!

Wood Colonia
Wood Colonia has two parks you can take your pup to for a quick workout and walk. The first, West Park, is a small park that makes the most of its space. There’s a playground for children, a well used soccer field, a basketball court, and an open green space fit into a city block. Dogs will love the chance to roam and explore, and a couple laps of the park should be a good walk. You can also go to Cenizo Park. This park has a walking path all along the perimeter, making it a great place to easily walk your dog.

Downtown Edinburg
Downtown Edinburg is home to Apollo Park, which is divided into sections. Two of these sections have playground equipment, one has a large soccer field in place, and the other is set aside for picnicking. Your dog will love to explore either the soccer field or the picnic area. If you’re in a rush, Apollo Park’s dividing trails are a great walking path. Make a few twisting loops of the park and you can get in a good walk at a quick pace. Dogs have to be on leash in the park, and be sure to bring your own water bowl if you want your pup to drink from the fountains!

Violet Avenue
The Bill Shupp Park in this McAllen neighborhood is a sixteen minute drive from Edinburg, and a great destination for the whole family. In addition to the BBQ pits where you can cook up a great meal, the park features playgrounds, a merry-go-round, and a fitness trail! Dogs are welcome to join you on leash (except on the merry-go-round), and will love the opportunity to join you for a jog down the moderately rated fitness trail. There’s plenty of water scattered throughout the park to combat the intense Texas heat. Bring your own water bowl, though: the fountains are designed with hands in mind!

Parkland Estates
Parkland Estates in McAllen is an 18 minute drive from the heart of Edinburg. It’s worth hopping in the car for, however, because it has an off leash dog park! McAllen Dog Park is a pupular and pawsome place for your pup to participate in fun. There’s a dog fountain, benches for tired owners, and some shade trees and bushes. The main draw is socialization; as the only dog park in McAllen, this place sees a lot of traffic! Shy dogs may prefer an on leash walk in another Parkland Estates location: La Vista Park, where walking trails wind between sports fields and BBQ pits.
