Grafton/ Battle Park
Experience history while spending a day with your four-legged companion by visiting Yorktown Battlefield in Yorktown, Virginia. This historic park sits on the exact location where the British surrendered to the Americans in 1791, granting them independence. The park features several historical markers and monuments, and while dogs are not allowed indoors, leashed pets are welcome in most of the outdoor areas. Dogs must not be left unattended, and pet parents are responsible for cleaning up after them while in the park. Be sure to check out the schedule to find out about any events that may be taking place during your visit.

Yorktown Town Center
Yorktown’s Town Center is home to a few restaurants where you can enjoy an outdoor meal with your canine companion. For all your barbecue favorites, check out Smokin Joe’s BBQ. Dogs are given water bowls, and free treats are available. Other local favorites include Carrot Tree Yorktown, Waterstreet Grill, Riverwalk Restaurant, beach Delly and Ben & Jerry’s. After your meal, enjoy a leisurely stroll along Riverwalk Landing. This pedestrian walk follows the York River from the Yorktown Battlefield all the way to the American Revolution Museum of Yorktown and is lined with unique shops. Events are also occasionally held along Riverwalk Landing.

Yorktown Beach
When you want to soak up the sun with your dog, check out Yorktown Beach. This two-acre beachfront caters to families and has facilities for boating swimming and fishing. Make note, however, that dogs are not allowed in designated swimming areas. Pack a lunch, and enjoy lounging on the nearby grassy 10-acre picnic area. The beach picnic area is open daily from April through mid-October. Plentiful parking, restrooms and other amenities are all close by. While your canine partner may not be allowed to go for a dip when visiting Yorktown Beach, it’s still an amazing place to relax and witness beautiful scenery.

Downtown Hampton
Located to the south of Yorktown, Downtown Hampton in the town of Hampton, Virginia, is home to the recently renovated Ridgeway Bark Park. This park has separate areas for large breeds and small breeds, and the entire park is safe and secure for pets of all ages. The large dog area features a 6-foot fence while the small dog area has a 4-foot fence. This spacious park features benches, a covered shelter, drinking fountain and dog water bowls. Make note, though, that there is a fee for visiting this park. All dogs are also required to have a current license and be up-to-date on their vaccinations.

Skinimo/ Skinimo Farms
The colonial city of Williamsburg, Virginia is located just 13 miles northwest of Yorktown. While you’re checking out the local history, be sure to stop by Waller Mill Dog Park to give your furry friend a chance to stretch his legs. This fenced-in park has plenty of room for off-leash play and socialization. With separate areas for large dogs and small dogs, pooches of all sizes are sure to have a great time. The large dog area features an agility course, and there are several trees scattered throughout the park. When you visit, be sure to bring your dog’s license and proof of rabies vaccination as all pets must be registered prior to entry.
