Waterbury
Waterbury has its share of urban parks that you can enjoy on your morning walk with Fido. For some sprawling grassy areas, head over to the Dac Rowe Athletic Field. This park has a large variety of athletic fields, restrooms, playgrounds, and a covered picnic area. To continue the adventure, you can head over to the Cross Vermont Trail. This multi-use trail follows along the Winooski River and is accessible from State Drive. The trail is wide and gradual, so people and pups of all fitness levels can join in on the fun. Leashed dogs are welcome in both of these areas, just don’t forget to stoop and scoop! When your stomach is growling, head to Arvads for a burger and craft beer. Dogs are welcome on the covered porch.

Waterbury Center
Just south of Waterbury, under a ten minute drive away, you can find Waterbury Center. This village has a plethora of natural areas to explore with your pal! The Little River State Park is a dog friendly great place to check out. This is one of the most popular parks in central Vermont, located on the Waterbury Reservoir. There are many miles of trails in this park that attract hikers, bikers, and dog walkers. If you want to stay here a while, there are tent campsites, remote campsites and one pet friendly cabin available. Dogs are welcome throughout the park, except for on the beaches and designated swim areas. They can splash and play at the boat dock in section A and from waterfront campsites. Be sure to leave only footprints as you explore this beautiful area with your dog!

Stowe City Center
The nearby town of Stowe is a recreation hub for outdoor enthusiasts, and their dogs too! In the Stowe City Center, just a 15 minute drive north of Waterbury, you can find the Stowe Recreation Path. This five-mile paved pathway is easy on the paws and they eyes. The pathway criss-crosses the Little River with scenic bridges, and offers gorgeous mountain views. Leashed dogs are welcome to join their humans on this pathway. If you’re looking for a place to crash in Stowe after your adventures with Fido, you don’t need to go far. The Golden Eagle Resort welcomes two dogs of any size for an additional fee. Be sure to call ahead to ensure a pet friendly room!

Duxbury
Just west of Waterbury brings you to the sprawling wilderness of Camel’s Hump State Park in Duxbury, less than 20 minutes away. This 20,000 acre park is known for its camel-shaped peaks and is an iconic part of central Vermont’s landscape. The park is mostly undeveloped and has no visitors facilities, but there are still many ways to explore the area. For a bit of a challenge, try the Monroe Trail, accessible from Camel’s Hump Road. The trail has three viewing spots to the summit of Camel’s Hump. Leashed dogs are welcome, just don’t forget the waste bags and plenty of drinking water for your parched pup. If you want to spend the night under the stars, there is pet friendly primitive camping available in this park as well.

Elm St / Mill Rd
East of Waterbury in the nearby town of Montpelier brings you to another puppy paradise! It’s in the Elm St / Mill Rd neighborhood, just 30 minutes from Waterbury, that you can find the Hubbard Park Off-Leash Dog Area. This public park has many trails on which your pal can romp around like a wild dog. There is even a pond to cool off in. The park is not fenced, and your dog must be within sight and under voice control at all times. You’ll need to bring your own supplies, like waste bags, drinking water, and your doggo’s favorite ball. When it’s time for a treat, head over to Birchgrove Baking in the same neighborhood. You can enjoy some delicious handmade pastries at this dog friendly bakery and cafe.
