For a quick beach getaway without having to leave the city, hop into the car with Fido and head on over to Castle Island in South Boston! Widely regarded as one of the best parks in the city, this 22-acre urban green space is home to Fort Independence, walking trails, and a dog-friendly beach that will keep your pup's tail wagging. It's a furrific destination for the entire family, and four-legged members don't have to be left out!
From September 16th through April 30th, canine visitors are welcome to stroll in the sand and play in the calm waters of Castle Island Beach. This small, but peaceful stretch of sand, located near the park's free parking lot, is pawfect for escaping the hustle and bustle of the city and reconnecting with nature with your furry pal by your side. Enjoy the cool ocean breeze and puptacular views of the bay, but don't get too lax, as your doggo needs to be leashed at all times! Of course, cleaning up after them is also a must. Doggie waste bags are not provided, so be sure to pack these along with the beach towels and your pup's favorite treats. Drinking fountains are scattered around the park; bring a bowl for your pooch.Â
To make the most of your visit to Castle Island, don't forget to check out the centerpiece of the park, Fort Independence. You and Fido can reach the fort by following the pathway from the beach, and while dogs are not allowed inside, you can still appreciate this five-bastioned, granite structure from the outside. You'll also get to see woofderful views of the Harbor Islands and maybe even catch glimpses of planes flying in and out of nearby Logan Airport.Â
If a relaxing day at the beach with your canine companion is just what you need, you can't go wrong with Castle Island Beach!
