Fish Haul Creek Beach is one of Hilton Head Island's six dog friendly beaches. It's located at the "heel" end of this shoe-shaped island, inside Fish Haul Creek Park. People flock to this sandy spot for fishing and clamming. If your dog is a digger, consider getting a permit and bringing a bucket with you. You just might bring home dinner!Â
Pawrt of the beauty of Fish Haul Creek Beach is the trek it takes to get there. Fish Haul Creek Park has a designated parking lot with one large path. Follow this path past the Mitchelville Freedom Park Project, which works to preserve local history. Continue through the woods. You'll know you've arrived when dirt turns to sand under your paws!Â
Fish Haul Creek Beach is a flat, open beach that faces out onto Port Royal Sound, not the ocean. This won't make much of a difference to visitors, whether they're canine or human. The view is equally stunning. Your dog will be too busy running off leash or exploring tide pools to care about anything else. The tall grass from the nearby salt marshes make for a perfect breeding ground for a variety of wild birds. The ample fiddler crab population is another reason you'll see birds flock here. See if you can spot any yourself!
This beach is an unspoiled natural wonder of warm, shallow waters and sand bars. It falls under the "pack in, pack out" rule. Everything you need on the beach must come in with you, and you should take everything out that you bring in. This extends to picking up after your pet. The beach does not provide waste bags, so remember to pack those before you head in! You'll also want to bring enough water that your furry friend stays nice and cool. Do note that from April 1st through September 30th, dogs are not allowed on beaches between 10 am and 5pm, but are allowed outside these hours. From October 1st to February 28th, your pup is allowed to romp at anytime.
Fish Haul Creek Beach is an off-leash destination for dogs who love the water, so pack your pup up and check it out!Â
