Sans Souci Beach

Sans Souci Beach is a unique beach located in Kapiolani Park on Oahu’s South Shore. This small but scenic beach has a large parking lot, and parking is usually available. This furrific sandscape only allows dogs on leash below the high-tide line, which is typically marked by seaweed.

Sans Souci Beach has a rich history dating back to the mid-1880s. The beach was originally part of a resort owned by a businessman named Allen Herbert. He gave the resort and beach the name Sans Souci, which means ‘without a care’ in French. In 1927, the Waikiki War Memorial Natatorium was added to the northern end of Sans Souci Beach. This stair-filled structure commemorates the 10,000 Hawaiian men who enlisted in the army in World War I.

Today, Sans Souci Beach is pawpular with locals who enjoy swimming at this beach. The beach is protected by a wide reef, and because of that, the water is shallow and there usually isn’t a strong current. Because the water is so calm, Sans Souci Beach is a great place to go snorkeling. You and your dog will both have a fun time swimming in the warm water here!

After you’re finished with your swim, you and your dog can go for strolls on the bright white sand together. Or, you can simply relax on the sand and enjoy the views of the ocean. You can also have a picnic on the beach if you’d like! There’s no drinking water available at Sans Souci Beach, so be sure to bring some with you for you and your dog.
