Does your pup have a severe case of the zoomies? Then let them blow off steam at Hunnewell Dog Park! This off-leash area in Newton has ample space where your dog can run and romp to their heart’s content.
Located in the eastern section of the 4.6-acre Hunnewell Park, Hunnewell Dog Park is one of three fully fenced off-leash areas in the city, making it an ideal hangout for puppers who are still working on their recall and those who have a knack for sneaking off. There are no fancy amenities at this park, but four-legged visitors will appreciate its soft grass surface and shady spots. This is a place where your pooch can simply be a dog and enjoy the company of other canines.Â
Seating is available for the pup parents, and while there is a dispenser for poop bags at the entrance, it’s recommended to bring your own as they sometimes run out. There is also no water source onsite, so don’t leave home without H2O for your furkid. Another thing to keep in mind is that there are two entrances to Hunnewell Park; the one with access to the off-leash area is by the parking lot, which is technically in Brighton.Â
Before your pooch can visit Hunnewell Dog Park, they must be licensed and up to date with their vaccinations. You’ll also need to acquire a resident or non-resident off-leash medallion, which your dog will have to wear along with their license and identification. Dog licenses and off-leash medallions can be obtained by registering your furbaby with the City Clerk’s Office online or by mail.
If your pup still has energy to burn after romping in the off-leash area, clip on their leash and take them for a walk around the rest of Hunnewell Park. Leashed dogs are allowed in all Newton parks, but they’ll have to stay away from tot lots and Little League fields.
For off-leash fun in Newton, take your furkid to Hunnewell Dog Park!Â
If Fido needs to learn some dog park petiquette, consider booking an in-home dog training session with Wag! before you visit.
