McKinley Dog Park, Chicago, IL

Spanning over 72-acres, McKinley Park is a slice of puppy paradise! The park attracts families, dog walkers, athletes, and outdoor enthusiasts, and everyone can find a treat here! Best of all, it can be enjoyed all year round by two- and four-legged visitors alike. Your furry friend can accompany you on a walk among the blooming spring flowers or go for an unfettered romp in the off-leash area. Whatever your plans are, McKinley Park is a great place to get some fresh air and exercise with your pup!

Canine visitors will likely want to head straight to the McKinley Dog Park, located in the southwest corner of the park. This approved Dog Friendly Area (DFA) features separate sections for small and large pooches, both of which are fully fenced and double-gated for everyone's safety. Inside the DFA, you'll find water fountains for canines and humans, free waste bags, and seating for the pet parents. There is no grass and shade is limited, but it is clean and well-maintained. 

As with any DFA in Chicago, your pooch must have a permit and tag before they can hang out at the McKinley Dog Park. Permits and tags cost $10 per season and can be obtained at participating veterinary offices. 

If your woofer still has energy to burn after visiting the DFA, take them for a leashed stroll around the rest of McKinley Park. There are paved walking paths lined with shade trees and some benches, as well as boardwalks that surround a large lagoon on the east side. There are also lookout points over the lagoon that are great for wildlife watching, so don’t forget your binoculars!
