Norwood Dog Park, Chicago, IL

Norwood Park is a fourteen-acre neighborhood park on Chicago's North Side. Among its numerous outdoor and indoor amenities are the area's only outdoor public pool and a large fitness center with a full class schedule. It's a popular place for year-round activities for adults and children alike. Dog parents will most appreciate the furrific dog-friendly area where pups can play off-leash and make lots of new friends.

The Norwood Park Dog Park is a 0.13-acre fenced-off playspace that was converted from an ice hockey rink and is now maintained by the Norwood Dog Park Association, which sometimes hosts cute canine-centered holiday events. The simple play area has a mixed gravel and concrete surface for easy maintenance and mud-free paws in summer, when the dog park boasts kiddie pools and other water features for pups who like to splash around to cool off.

Other dog park amenities include a doggie drinking fountain and benches. There are many trees in and outside of the fenced-in area that provide tranquil scenery and shade. Poop bags and trash cans are provided, so just remember to be a good community member and clean up after your pup. There is no separate area for small dogs, so if you have a little dog, make sure they're comfortable making friends with bigger dogs before you bring them here.

For dogs who like the feeling of grass underneath their feet, there's plenty of lawn and field space where they can roam and sniff to their heart's content. Just outside of the off-leash area, you'll find a grove of mature trees and a large expanse of soft grass. Norwood Park is a great place for leashed walks. There are trails and walking paths you can follow to rack up the miles, or you can let your dog's nose lead you to the interesting smells on and around the trees and fields. It's just as lovely to enjoy the fall colors here as the verdant greenery of summer.
