While not as big or popular as other Houston dog parks, the Westwillow Dog Park is a favorite hangout among canines living north of downtown. With lots of space and pawsome amenities, this off-leash park is guaranteed to keep your furry friend’s tail wagging!
Nestled in the residential neighborhood of Westbridge, the Westwillow Dog Park is split into two areas for large and small canines. Both areas are fully fenced and double gated, with access being quite a ways from the main park entrance for added security. Both enclosures feature open grassy fields where high-energy dogs can blow off steam and shy pups can do their own thing, as well as agility equipment like tunnels, jumps, weave poles, and more! Each off-leash area also has a paw-shaped paved path at the center, which is probably the cutest feature of the dog park!
Shaded seating areas are provided for the humans, as are dog waste bags and trash cans. There is no water fountain though, so be sure to bring water for your pooch. It’s also recommended to bring a towel. Since the dog park doubles as a retention pond, it tends to get muddy after rain. This is welcome news for some pups, but not so much for pet parents! Fortunately, there’s a water hose for cleaning off muddy dogs near the entrance.
There is no fee to use the Westwillow Dog Park, but all canine visitors must be licensed and up to date on their vaccinations. Pet parents are expected to clean up after their furkids and keep an eye on them at all times. If your pup still has energy to burn after romping in the off-leash area, you can take them on a leashed stroll along the paved loop that goes around the perimeter of the main park.
