In this Nature's Logic dog food review, we'll take an in-depth look at its ingredient quality, pros, cons, and past recalls to help you decide if it's right for your four-legged friend.

Nature's Logic serves up over 25 dog food variations, with grain-free and grain-inclusive options available. There are also over a dozen Nature's Logic treats for when your barking buddy's been a good boy.

All Nature's Logic dog foods are "complete and balanced" and suitable for all life stages, according to the Association of American Feed Control Officials (AAFCO), except for Sardine Feast Canned Food, which is for supplemental feeding only. Nature's Logic uses the AAFCO Feeding Protocols instead of nutrient profile guidelines to test its foods' suitability.

As you might've gathered by its name, Nature's Logic Original is Nature's Logic standard dry dog food range.

They're slightly better-than-standard dog foods, with each recipe listing meat meal, millet, chicken fat, yeast culture, and pumpkin seed flour as the top ingredients.

Meat meals are high in protein but highly processed — we'd prefer to see a quality cut of meat at the top of each list.

Millet is a reasonably nutritious grain for dogs — it's easier to digest than wheat and is rich in B vitamins, phosphorus, and iron. Yeast culture is a rare ingredient that's relatively healthy for dogs, acting as a probiotic to aid digestion. Pumpkin seed flour is high in linoleic acid, an omega 6 fatty acid that promotes skin health, immune function, and growth.

Further down the ingredients list are natural produce like dried tomatoes, carrots, pumpkin, and blueberries, which provide natural vitamin and mineral sources.

One of the biggest positives of Nature's Logic Original dog food is its fat and protein levels — Nature's Logic Original Chicken has above-average protein (39.5% as dry matter) and near-average fat (16.4% as dry matter) compared to the average kibble.

Nature's Logic Original Grain-Free is similar to its grain-inclusive offerings, consisting mainly of meat meal, tapioca starch, fat, menhaden fish meal, and dried liver. The chicken recipe uses chicken fat and chicken liver, while the beef formula includes pork fat and pork liver.

One of the biggest pros of these recipes is they include no legumes, peas, potatoes, corn, wheat, or soy, which offer little nutritional value. Tapioca starch is a fairly good alternative to grains — it's gluten-free but almost entirely carbs.

Like Nature's Logic Original grain-inclusive options, these recipes feature natural produce like spinach, broccoli, and cranberries.

These recipes' protein and fat levels are near-identical to their grain-inclusive equivalents.

Distinction is Nature's Logic's premium dog kibble line. Its recipes are pretty similar to the Original range with one "distinction" — a real cut of meat is the primary ingredient. Each recipe rounds out its top five ingredients with meat meal, millet, animal fat, and yeast culture.

Aside from the use of real meat, the ingredients in these recipes are nearly identical to Nature's Logic Original, with the same superfoods like cranberries and blueberries providing additional natural nutrients.

Distinction recipes also have nearly the same fat and protein ratios across the range despite using real meat instead of meat meals as the main ingredient. For example, Nature's Logic Distinction Chicken recipe contains 39.5% protein as dry matter and 16.4% fat as dry matter, which is the same as the Original recipe.

Nature's Logic Distinction Grain-Free recipes follow the same pattern as with the Original formulas. Tapioca starch replaces millet as the main carb source.

The other main difference between Distinction's grain-inclusive and grain-recipes is they contain multiple animal protein sources. For example, the Red recipe includes beef, pork, and lamb. As a result, Distinction Grain-Free may not be the best option for dogs with sensitive stomachs.

Canned Diets is Nature's Logic's only wet dog food range, consisting of nine grain-free canned recipes. Overall, Nature's Logic's wet foods are of a good standard, with several cuts of muscle and organ meat within the top five ingredients.

Other common ingredients in each recipe include dried egg products and porcine plasma. Dried egg products are a good secondary protein source, while porcine plasma is a by-product derived from pork blood that's high in protein, iron, and zinc.

Nature's Logic Canned Diets recipes have above-average protein and fat levels. For example, the Canned Diets Chicken recipe contains above-average protein (39.2% as dry matter) and above-average fat (32.1% as dry matter). With a high fat-to-protein ratio and 504 calories per can, this recipe isn't a good choice for dogs with weight concerns.

Nature's Logic has a wide range of treats and toppers, from supplemental snacks that support your doggo's health to mouthwatering meaty chews for your mutt to munch on. Nature's Logic's dog treats are made from all-natural ingredients and generally above-average quality.

The Biscuit With Benefits range features three recipes for specific needs — for example, Calming Support Biscuits include chamomile and lavender, which some studies suggest can act as natural sedatives. However, these treats aren't very nutritious, with barley, oats, and oat flour as the top ingredients.

The rest of Nature's Logic's dog treats and topics consist of only three ingredients maximum. Meat-inclusive Canine Treats and Canine Chews consist of just one ingredient. Beef Crumble, Nature's Logic's only meal topper, is made of roasted beef lung and roasted beef liver.

Many brands use plant-based proteins, like pea protein, to inflate the protein contents of their dog foods — but not Nature's Logic!

All recipes, including Nature's Logic Originals, have a minimum of 85% protein from animal sources. So, you can feed Fido Nature's Logic knowing they're getting all the essential amino acids they need to be happy and healthy.

Nature's Logic adds natural probiotics and prebiotics, like dried lactobacillus acidophilus fermentation products, to its recipes to aid digestion and boost immunity by supporting and topping up the friendly bacteria in your pup's gut. Natural probiotics and prebiotics are usually only seen in higher-end pet foods.

Nature's Logic has a big focus on sustainability. All recipes are completely natural — no GMOs or synthetic ingredients here!

Nature's Logic tries to keep its packaging eco-friendly, too. It makes its kibble bags using 30% recycled materials and 100% renewable electricity.

Nature's Logic is a Pet Sustainability Coalition (PSC) accredited business that recognizes companies that work to positively impact the environment through their business practices.

Nature's Logic is transparent about where it manufactures its dog foods. All of its foods are made at USDA and FDA-certified plants in Nebraska, Kansas, and Missouri. Nature's Logic tests all batches for Salmonella and E. coli, reducing the chances of a food recall. And it seems to have worked — Nature's Logic dog foods are recall-free!

One of the biggest things to bear in mind when buying Nature's Logic for your hound is the fat and calories in some of its wet foods. For example, many foods contain over 30% fat as dry matter with over 500 calories per can, which is higher than usual for wet dog food.

These fat and calorie levels won't be an issue for most active pups, but it could cause older dogs and coach pup-tatoes to gain excess weight.

Nature's Logic's premium dry dog food range, Distinction, isn't available online at retailers like Chewy or Amazon. Nature's Logic states Distinction products are only available at independent and local pet food stores.

Like many pet food brands, Nature's Logic has mixed customer reviews — some loved it, some loathed it. One common complaint among pet parents is that Nature's Logic causes vomiting and diarrhea.

"I have three cavalier King Charles spaniels. All different ages and my pups love it. They’re usually picky eaters. Their coats are softer shinier, poops are better."

"I like that it has meat as the first ingredient and no synthetic vitamins. This is the best dry food I have found for my dog."

"My dog was so sick (vomiting profusely) that I thought she had a bowel obstruction. Took her to my Vet, and it’s this food! Severe nausea and vomiting, then severe diarrhea! My lab has never had issues with any dog food and is only 18mos. old. I paid $75 for this food, then another $600 at the Vet!"

Nebraska native Scott Freeman founded Nature's Logic in 2005. He based the company's concept on providing pets with balanced diets without using any synthetic ingredients.

Freeman partnered with a veterinarian and another pet supplement company with similar ambitions to produce affordable, whole pet foods without artificial ingredients. Nature's Logic launched its first pet foods in January 2006 for retail in the USA. In 2021, Texas-based pet food company Mid America Pet Food purchased Nature's Logic. Mid America Pet Food also owns the pet food brand Victor.

There have been no recalls of Nature's Logic dog food as of March 2025.
