Named for  mountainous rock formation that resembles a chimney, Chimney Rock in North Carolina is one of those places you won’t want to leave. Home of the beautiful Chimney Rock State Park, this popular tourist location is valued for being dog-friendly. Take your dog to one of the numerous restaurants near the park’s entrance, or go on a wild and exciting hike through one of the trails that lead up the mountain itself. Dogs are welcome on trails, but be sure to bring plenty of water, and don’t let your doggy get too tuckered out. Dogs are not allowed on the elevator to the actual peak of Chimney Rock, but taking the elevator takes all the fun out of it anyhow!

The trail up the mountain is a sure hit for both beginners and those who are veteran hikers. The view from the top of the peak is pawsitively breathtaking, allowing you and your pup to gaze out into the forests and mountains of the beautiful state that North Carolina more certainly is. Be sure to keep your dog on a relatively tight leash, as the elevations are quite high. It never hurts to be too careful with your prized pooch, after all!

Chimney Rock is the pawfect place to visit or live if you like exploring the great outdoors with your dog!

What better way to start your day with a fresh cup of deliciously brewed coffee? The only thing that would make it pawsitively perfect would be having your puppy pal at your side. Luckily, you can at the outdoor decks of Carolina Moon Coffee and Unique Finds! However, the tables are only open after Easter, which is due to the frigid temperatures in the colder months. Just goes to show they care about your dog’s health, as well as your comfort! Carolina Moon is renowned for their delicious pimento cheese sandwiches, as well as their Lake Lure blend coffee. Mix it up with a frappe, or just get a simple cup of joe. Either way, your dog will enjoy watching tourists pass by as you prepare to face the day!

Thank goodness that the Old Rock Cafe is placed directly beside the entrance of the park, easily within walking distance. With thirteen outdoor dining tables placed on a spacious deck that overlooks the broad river, you and your dog can enjoy the sights while you decide whether you want to try that chili, or one of their delicious burgers. There are also hiker lunches available if you decide to visit the cafe before going on your daily adventure, so you’ll be ready to roll as long as you’ve planned accordingly for Rover!

What’s an adventure to a popular tourist location without a visit to the local gift shop? While Bubba O’Leary’s carries a good share of souvenirs, from shirts to shot glasses, they also have a large selection of candy and general knick knacks. Best of all, your dog is more than welcome to join you inside. The employees are extremely accommodating and dog lovers themselves, so let your dog get a good petting from the cashier. You can find nearly anything you can think of at this large two-story store, and missing it would be a definite mistake! Your dog will thank you for the excitement!

With a massive outdoor deck facing a beautiful river, this is just the place to bring your dog and wind down a bit after a long day of exploring Chimney Rock’s other offerings! Sample a rotating selection of local ales, and while you’re at it, have a little bite to eat. Your dog may not be able to enjoy their delectable Oreo brownies, but you’re sure to love them. A short car ride away from the abundant treats that surround the state park itself, you’ll find yourself in busy Hendersonville. Not as small and remote as Chimney Rock itself, it’s one of the few places you’ll find lodging in the area. In addition to the usual city fare, from August to November, your dog is sure to enjoy a day spent at Granddad’s Apples. Pick your own, or purchase pre-picked. Your dog is welcome to join you in the orchard. Just think of all those fresh smells! There’s also a pumpkin patch for your pup to get some boo’s instead of barks. Finally, let your puppy pal lead you through the corn maze. It’s difficult on your own, but with your tremendous tracker at your side, you’re sure to get out in no time!
