Originally a town created after the San Franscisco earthquake in 1906, El Cerrito has grown into a busy little city in Contra Costa County. The name El Cerrito means  ‘little hill,’ and locals and visitors love to head to the high parts of the city to admire the views of the Golden Gate Bridge and bay area. For dog lovers, there are six veterinary clinics and animal hospitals in case of emergency.

For dogs that love to explore the outdoors, El Cerrito is a city that doesn’t disappoint! At Alvarado Park, you can bring your pup to enjoy the green grass and trees that offer new surroundings to investigate. At this ancient Indian village site, there are also sniff-tastic trails you can hike that boast amazing views, as long as your dog is on leash. Located just beside Alvarado Park, you will also find the massive Wildcat Canyon Regional Park. This is a pawsome place to spend the day, with lush green surroundings throughout the year. Dogs are welcome to walk the trails in the park and are permitted to be off leash in certain open spaces, as long as they have learned good recall.

So, pack your bags with water and treats and head for the hills of El Cerrito with your furry friend!
