Lindenhurst is a small village on the southern shore of Long Island, New York, lovingly nicknamed The Hurst. Located on the southern coast of the island, this area in metropolitan New York still offers plenty of fun activities for nature lovers and their dogs. This village also has its very own veterinary hospital, which makes caring for your pup a breeze!

Lindenhurst has plenty of small neighborhood parks throughout town for you and your pup to enjoy on your daily walk! For wide open spaces of green grass, and views of Strongs Creek and the East West Channel, check out the Shore Road Park. This park is located in the south end of town, and features soccer fields and a baseball diamond. Leashed dogs are welcome to enjoy it of course, as long as there are no games in play. 

If you're in the north end of town, check out the Firemen’s Memorial Park to enjoy some greenery and meet some furry friends! The Lindenhurst City Center is proud home to a great urban park, and a favorite for locals and their four-legged friends. The Irmisch Park is a quiet and pretty neighborhood park accessible from North Allegheny Avenue. Dogs are welcome here as long as they stay leashed and get picked up after. The park features a scenic little pond with paved walking paths where you and your dog will love to stretch your legs. This family friendly park also has a playground, basketball courts, tennis courts, and public bathrooms. So when your puppy is getting squirmish, take a walk over to Irmisch! The Babylon Town Hall Park has similar features, and is also accessible from the north end of this neighborhood. This park also has colorful flowers and monuments, but take care with your dog because it backs onto a busy highway!

A straight shot across South Oyster Bay will bring you to the Gilgo neighborhood of Babylon. This neighboring town has some great beaches and activities to check out with your dog, one of which is the popular Cedar Beach. To get to this beach, you can take a drive along the Robert Moses Causeway, or take a ferry from the town of Bayshore. Leashed dogs are welcome to enjoy the ferry ride with you, and explore Cedar Beach too. This beach has restrooms, picnic areas, volleyball courts and playgrounds. You and your pup may also be able to catch a free concert, or grab a bite to eat at one of the outdoor tables of the Beach Hut!

For a more developed park along the East West Channel, go visit the Venetian Shores Park in the Wellwood neighborhood of Lindenhurst. The park welcomes leashed dogs and has a ton of great amenities for you to enjoy. This safe, family oriented park has a variety of athletic fields, a splash pad and bathrooms available. There is also a rocky beach, and occasionally live music to enjoy as well. When you and your dog have worked up an appetite from all the playtime, the park also has its very own outdoor restaurant and bar in the summer called the Beach Hut. This neighborhood is also home to Neguntatogue Park, located along Neguntatogue Creek. This large undeveloped green space is pawfect to get away from the crowds and into some peaceful nature.

Just a short trot over into the town of West Babylon brings you to another puppy paradise. In the West Babylon neighborhood, you can find the 436 acre Belmont Lake State Park. This park is divided by Carll’s Creek and the spring fed Belmont Lake, and features 7.6 miles of hiking paths that welcome dogs as long as they stay leashed. The lake offers more oppawtunities for adventure, and allows non-motorized boating, fishing, and wildlife viewing. Visitors love watching the wild Osprey catch fish for their young in the spring by diving into the lake from high above. This state park is the perfect place to get back to nature with your pup!

The 1,477 acre Bethpage State Park in the neighborhood of Court North is sure to get tails wagging. It’s famous for its world class golf courses, but has plenty of hiking, biking and cross-country ski trails in the surrounding area where you can romp around with your dog. But don’t get too wild, because your dog needs to stay leashed and get picked up after throughout this park. Amenities include restrooms, picnic areas, and a large variety of sports fields.
