Located in Washburn County, the town of Sarona is a quiet northwoods area. There are a variety of recreational activities located within about 20 miles of town. When you need veterinary care for your furry pal, you can find two clinics about 8.4 miles west of here in Shell Lake.

Take your pooch for a walk or jog on the Wild Rivers Trail. This 104-mile crushed stone pathway passes right through Sarona. Head north or south and enjoy the scenic countryside. Dogs are welcome to join you as long as they're on a leash that's no longer than eight feet.

Another pawtastic trail in the area is the Tuscobia Trail. You can access this 74-mile rail-trail off Highway SS about 10.6 miles south of Sarona. Leashed dogs can accompany you here. Bring water and waste bags with you for your trip.

Plan a camping trip with Spot at White Tail Ridge Campground. This facility has RV sites and is located about six miles southwest of  town. Go hiking on the nature trail through 40 acres of wooded land with your four-footed friend. Dogs need to be on a leash. Remember to bring waste bags.

When you want to explore nature with your special pal, head about 4.4 miles east to the Hunt Hill Audobon Sanctuary. This pawesome preserve includes a variety of habitats and wildlife. There are 13 miles of natural-surface trails that are open for public use. Wander through bogs, forest, and meadows with your canine companion. Dogs are welcome to join you as long as you keep them on a leash and clean up after them.

Take some time to wander through the Monarch Butterfly Habitat located here. Spend a night by the water with your canine pal at the Shell Lake Municipal Campground. The lakeside facility has RV hook-ups, pull through sites, a public boat landing, and a dock. Dogs are permitted in the campground and park but not the beach area. Keep your pooch on a leash that's no longer than ten feet and pick up his waste.

Beaver Brook is a small rural community located about 3.8 miles north of Sarona. There are private country estates and farms here. Take Spot for a daily walk down wooded roads in the area. For an outdoor adventure, head to the Beaver Brook Wildlife Area. There's a public access parking lot off Highway 53 just 2.6 miles north of the village. Hike along the cross-country trails and wander along the brook. Bring your pole and fish for trout. Dogs are permitted to join you, but they must be on-leash if you visit between April 15 and July 31. Bring water and waste bags with you.

Head into town and visit Wisconsin Canoe Heritage Museum and the Railroad Memories Museum to learn some of the area's history.
