Woodruff is a vibrant community located in the heart of Upstate South Carolina. This historic mill village has plenty small town charm and eclectic shops. You can enjoy these while wandering along the many pedestrian and puppy friendly sidewalks and pathways. This small town isn’t short on conveniences, and has two veterinary clinics right in town. This combination makes Woodruff a great place to visit or live with your pooch.

On your morning walk with Fido, you have to check out the Woodruff Greenway Trail. This trail can be accessed from the Woodruff Middle School on the east end of town. This paved pathway is easy on the paws and the eyes, and is perfect for a leisurely stroll or a quick jog with your best pal. The pathway passes through forests and over a scenic footbridge. Leashed dogs are welcome to join in on the fun with their humans!

The Woodruff Greenway Trail also connects to some spacious greenery you can enjoy with your pupper at the Woodruff Leisure Center. This area features a community center, a disc golf course, and lots of grassy areas your dog can sniff and play on. Be sure to bring waste bags and dog treats for your good boy or girl!

One of the favorite places to hang in Woodruff is McKinney Park. This park offers some peaceful green space within the bustling city center of Woodruff and has something in it for everyone, including the family dog! Amenities here include playgrounds, restrooms, and a large variety of athletic fields. There are picnic tables and shelters here too, so don’t forget to pack a lunch! This park is a great place to meet some furry friends, enjoy some peace with nature and maybe even catch a free concert. Dogs are welcome, as long as they stay leashed and follow proper petiquette!

Just east of Woodruff in the neighboring town of Roebuck, you can find another great place to get some fresh air and exercise with your pupper. The Tyger River Park is just 10 minutes from Woodruff, scenically situated along the Tyger River. In this park you can find a 0.75 mile hiking trail with access to the river for fishing or kayaking. You can also just kick back and relax on one of the benches, and watch the sights and sounds of the water crashing over the boulders in the river. Leashed dogs are welcome in this park and on the trail, but be sure that they leave only paw prints!

In the neighboring village of Fountain Inn, you can find some more great places to hang with your doggo. It’s from here that you can access a portion of the Swamp Rabbit Trail, under a 20 minute drive from Woodruff. This well maintained trail runs alongside Wilson Creek, allowing you to hear the running water on your relaxing stroll. The trail also connects to Country Gardens Greenway Park. This family friendly park features a playground and benches. After working up an appetite from all that playtime, head over to Orion’s Bar and Grill where you can enjoy something from their diverse menu of food and drinks at one of the outdoor dog friendly tables.

Directly west of Woodruff, you can find another puppy paradise in Simpsonville! The Simpsonville City Center is proud home to it’s very own dog park, just about a 20 minute drive away. The Simpsonville Dog Spot within the 14 acre Simsonville City Park, features separate fenced off areas for big dogs and the little guys. This park provides a safe environment for your pup to enjoy some exercise and pawsitive socialization. You kind find everything here you and your doggo would need for a good time, including shade trees, canine drinking fountains and waste bags. If you and your pup are looking for somewhere to crash after your adventures in this town, check in at the Quality Inn Simpsonville. They welcome two pets up to 50lbs for an additional fee.

If you and your pup are itching to spend some time in the Great Outdoors, the Croft State Park is the place to go! Located just 25 minutes northeast of Woodruff in the town of Spartanburg, this sprawling 7000 acre park is worth the drive. It can be accessed from the Camp Croft neighborhood. The park offers 12 miles of hiking trails that meander through rolling wooded terrain. There are two lakes within the park as well that you can hike around. Leashed dogs are welcome throughout the whole park as long as they get picked up after. If you want to stay a while, the Croft State Park has dog friendly campsites as well. The campgrounds have modern restrooms and hot showers.
