Ponderosa Crossroads
If you're in Pittsburg and need to take your pooch somewhere for some off-leash playtime and a little bit of socializing, one of the best places to go is the King Park Dog Park. This park is around 13 miles away from Pittsburg, at Ponderosa Crossroads. This off-leash, fenced park doesn't have a lot of shade, but there is water available at the park, as well as some agility equipment where your dog can play and meet with other doggos. There are benches for the human visitors and trash stations for cleaning up your pup's messes. All you need to bring is Fido's favorite frisbee!

Piedmont Pines
Redwood Regional Park is approximately 30 miles away from Pittsburg, but the short drive is well worth it. This park is a natural recreation area where dogs are allowed to explore on-leash. Or, they can roam around off-leash in the undeveloped areas of the park. All of the trails are pretty shaded, which makes this a perfect escape from the city heat. There is also a lake in the area where your dog can cool off! Exploring this beautiful piece of nature will be a great way to spend some quality time with your dog. Make sure you bring water and poop bags.

Leona Preserve
Leona Canyon Trail can be found in Leona Canyon Regional Open Space Preserve, approximately 34 miles away from Pittsburg. The preserve is large at 290 acres, and is home to a lot of natural beauty, including canyons, trails, creeks and so much more. Dogs are allowed in all areas on-leash, but there are some parts where dogs can be off-leash. The trail is not very long, but the positive side is that it’s really shaded and perfect for escaping the summer heat. Make sure you bring water and waste bags with you. Oh, and be sure to watch where you step, because the area is covered with poison oak!

West Antioch
Markley Creek Dog Park is just 5 miles away from Pittsburg in West Antioch. The park is not very large, just 2 acres, but it offers a lot for your pooch. There are two separate areas for small and large dogs. The ground is covered in grovel so it doesn’t get muddy when it rains. There are plenty of poop bags so you won't have to worry about bringing your own. There are a number of benches available for the use of human visitors, as well as some shade. Other amenities include an open field, picnic tables, restrooms and a playground for children.

Ygnacio Valley
Heather Farms Dog Park can be found around 19 miles away from Pittsburg, in Walnut Creek's Ygnacio Valley neighborhood. The park includes a separate area for small dogs and another one for large dogs. You'll find plenty of parking near this off-leash park, as well as restrooms in the vicinity. Waste bags and water bowls are provided in both areas. There is plenty of shade here and places where human visitors can sit and watch over their pups. Waste bins can be found throughout the park, and your pooch will find plenty of toys there to play with.
