I enjoy being around dogs. I realize how important they are to their owners and treat them with that in mind. Dogs are good for people to be around because they can have a calming affect on you. I have owned several dogs over the years and I’ve always look forward to seeing them when I get home. I know that I have always had an empathy towards dogs and I feel that is an important thing in caring for them.

The village of Island Lake is located about 23 miles west of North Chicago. This suburban community includes several parks and a preserve where you and your furry pal can go exploring. If you're seeking professional health services for your pup, you'll find two veterinary clinics in town.
For a furrific outdoor adventure with Fido, head to the Fox River Preserve in Port Barrington. This 598-acre natural area is just three miles south of town. There are over three miles of hiking trails here. You can bring dogs on a leash as long as you keep them on the trails and pick up after them.
When you want to treat your furry pal to some off-leash time, head east about 5.5 miles to Lakewood Dog Park. Let Fido run free in this 66-acre space. You'll need to apply for a day pass or annual permit to use the off-leash area.
There's a pawtastic area for you and Spot to explore located about five miles south of town. Check out Hickory Grove Highlands. Walk along the trail loop that winds through the sedge meadow and woods here. Dogs are welcome as long as they're restrained on a leash up to ten feet long and you clean up any messes.
Island Lake and the surrounding areas offer a variety of outdoor recreational opportunities for dogs and their owners.
Carriage Hill is a residential development located just east of the lake. There's a loop here with a sidewalk where you and Fido can stretch your legs. If you'd like to change your venue, check out Greenleaf Woods in the center of the development. This undeveloped parcel of land is great for a little hike with your pup. You can also head to Eastway Park to enjoy a picnic with your fur baby. Dogs are permitted in designated parts of the park, provided that you keep them on a leash and under your control. Bring waste bags with you to clean up any droppings.
The Southern Terrace neighborhood is located along the southern shore of Island Lake. Here, you and Fido can take a walk around the block together. If you're looking for some open space by the water, head around the corner to Veterans Park off Island Drive. This lakeside facility has some grassy lawn where you and Fido can play ball together. Take a stroll with your canine pal by the water or hike on the paved pathway that cuts through the park. Dogs on a leash are welcome to accompany you in designated areas. Remember to clean up your pup's waste when visiting.
Walnut Glen is a residential development on the northern edge of Island Lake. This lane has a paved pathway that you can use to walk through the neighborhood with fido.
