The village was incorporated in 1974 and was first called the Village of Sunrise Ridge, but later, the name was changed to match the local lake. Ruffly 25 miles away from Wonder Lake, you can visit the Schweitzer Woods Forest Preserve, where your doggo can play off-leash in the designated fenced area, or enjoy some on-leash time on the beautiful trails. If you prefer a free, open park, then this is the place for you! Remember to bring waste baggies to clean up after your dog, but you won't have to worry about bringing water since there is water access in the park. If you want to hike but also want your pooch to be off their lead, there is even a trail in the fenced area where you can explore the wooded terrain off-leash!
Bull Valley Dog Park is a simple, enclosed doggie heaven that welcomes pooches of all shapes and sizes. It's located just 6.5 miles away from Wonder Lake. Doggies can burn some of that excess energy and explore the place with their newfound fur-iends! Water and poop baggies are not provided here, so if you decide to check out this place, make sure to bring the essentials with you. This 7-acre pup paradise can be used by all the doggos that have a membership. You'll need to purchase a permit before visiting, which requires you to provide proof of current vaccinations.
If you want to go for a simple, quick walk with your pooch that's not too far away from Wonder Lake, you should go to the neighboring town of Ringwood, where you can visit Glacial Park. This spacious, family-friendly park is just 6 miles outside of town, making it a convenient place to enjoy your daily walk with Fido. Numerous trails are just waiting to be explored by you and your leashed pooch! If you like water activities, there is a river where you can canoe, kayak, or even fish. Bring water with you, as well as poop baggies for keeping the place clean.
