Wonder Lake is a fairly large village located in McHenry County. The village was incorporated in 1974 and was first called the Village of Sunrise Ridge, but later, the name was changed to match the local lake. Today, this quaint place boasts a steadily growing pupulation, making it the pawfect place to visit or live! No need to worry about veterinary care while you're here; Wonder Lake has its own clinic that will take great care of your sick or injured pup.

A beautiful nature area in Wonder Lake that is worth visiting with your leashed pooch is the Harrison Benwell Park. Doggos are very welcome on the trails and in the picnic areas. The place is very clean and has restrooms for the human visitors. 

If you need an accommodation where you and your pooch can curl up and spend a couple of nights in Wonder Lake, your main option will be the local AirBnB rentals. For more traditional accommodation, you can head 12 miles away to Crystal Lake, or 9 miles away to Woodstock, where you can find a couple of pet-friendly hotels. 

The same applies to restaurants and bars where you can take your pooch to chow down on the outside patio. Woodstock has more than 5 eateries that welcome canine customers, and Crystal Lake offers more than 10!

If you're looking for a place where you can take your pooch to run around and stretch those paws, head to Hound Town Dog Park in Crystal Lake, just 12 miles out of town. This pawesome park offers two separate sections for small and large doggos. The three acres of land will be enough space for your pooch to get some exercise and meet new fur-iends! If you decide to go there, know that you will need a passkey from the parks department. Waste supplies and fresh water are the only things that you'll have to bring with you, other than your pooch!

Around 30 miles away from Wonder Lake, you'll find another pawssible place for your canine buddy to frolic and play. Bo's Run is located in a neighborhood called Winston Knolls in Hoffman Estates. The park is fully fenced and allows doggos to play off-leash in a 2-acre area. The whole area is divided into two sections, so large doggos and small pups can play separately -- and safely! Fresh drinking water is provided on-site, and some agility equipment is available as well. The park requires a membership, so make sure you read up on the requirements before visiting. You'll need to supply your own waste baggies.

Ruffly 25 miles away from Wonder Lake, you can visit the Schweitzer Woods Forest Preserve, where your doggo can play off-leash in the designated fenced area, or enjoy some on-leash time on the beautiful trails. If you prefer a free, open park, then this is the place for you! Remember to bring waste baggies to clean up after your dog, but you won't have to worry about bringing water since there is water access in the park. If you want to hike but also want your pooch to be off their lead, there is even a trail in the fenced area where you can explore the wooded terrain off-leash!

Bull Valley Dog Park is a simple, enclosed doggie heaven that welcomes pooches of all shapes and sizes. It's located just 6.5 miles away from Wonder Lake. Doggies can burn some of that excess energy and explore the place with their newfound fur-iends! Water and poop baggies are not provided here, so if you decide to check out this place, make sure to bring the essentials with you. This 7-acre pup paradise can be used by all the doggos that have a membership. You'll need to purchase a permit before visiting, which requires you to provide proof of current vaccinations.

If you want to go for a simple, quick walk with your pooch that's not too far away from Wonder Lake, you should go to the neighboring town of Ringwood, where you can visit Glacial Park. This spacious, family-friendly park is just 6 miles outside of town, making it a convenient place to enjoy your daily walk with Fido. Numerous trails are just waiting to be explored by you and your leashed pooch! If you like water activities, there is a river where you can canoe, kayak, or even fish. Bring water with you, as well as poop baggies for keeping the place clean.
