Columbus, Indiana may technically be a small city, but it has some huge notability for its innovative architecture. In fact, some call the city a living museum of modern art because of its love for modern architecture and art. There are five vet clinics and several veterinarians in the city ready to take care of your pooch, and you’ll also find a chain pet store, some dog-friendly hotels, and several restaurants that welcome dogs!
Some of Columbus’ surrounding areas have a little more to offer in terms of dog-friendly fun, like Bloomington, which is a larger city than Columbus. Bloomington is filled to the brim with dog-friendly restaurants and hotels, making it a pawfect spot to stay if you’re traveling. But you can also have some outdoor fun in Bloomington on Monroe Lake. Your leashed pup can explore many areas along the lake for hiking, boating, fishing, and more.
Oliver Winery will also welcome your doggie friend to join you as you explore the oldest and largest winery in Indiana! The grounds are breathtaking, and your leashed pup is welcome to go anywhere that you do, except for the tasting room.
Most areas in Bloomington are just about 35 miles or so from Columbus, making it a furtastic area for a fun day out.
Broadmoor is a neighborhood in central Columbus with a dog-friendly hotel and several restaurants that welcome you and your dog! The Garage features an interesting mix of casual meals, from mac and cheese to ribeye steaks. You can even enjoy some live music and karaoke on different nights of the week! The restaurant has a few outdoor tables in the front of the building that allow dogs. For your pizza fix, try Puccini’s, a dog-friendly pizzeria in Broadmoor. Or, head to The Savory Swine for fresh meats, sandwiches and more. This eatery and butcher shop also has some outdoor tables for you and your pup.
A little over 36 miles from Columbus is Elm Heights in Bloomington. Although a little bit of a drive, Bloomington is super dog-friendly. This incredible neighborhood is in the center of Bloomington and features dog-friendly attractions like hotels, restaurants, special events, and even the beautiful Griffy Lake Nature Preserve! Here is where you and your pup can enjoy some quality outdoor time. Your leashed pup is welcome on hiking trails, open areas, fishing areas, and more. The Ferguson Dog Park is nearby, too, which gives your dog a place to run unleashed for a fun day of exercise and socialization outside.
The Park Ridge neighborhood of Bloomington is about 33.7 miles from Columbus. In addition to a few pup-friendly hotels, Park Ridge offers several restaurants that welcome furry paws, like Jiffy Treet, which is the place to go for ice cream, root beer floats, and other cool treats -- perfect for summertime. You can also enjoy a meal at Bloomingfoods, which is a combination store and restaurant that has outdoor tables for you and your pup. Orange Leaf Frozen Yogurt has all kinds of yummy options to cool you off on a hot day and welcomes dogs at one of its outdoor tables.
Near West Side in Bloomington is just about a mile west of Elm Heights. This neighborhood has several hotels and restaurants that allow your furry friend to join you. The Tap Brewery and Craft Bar is a super casual place that’s perfect for friends and dogs to gather. Sit at one of the outdoor tables and enjoy live music. The Owlery Vegetarian Restaurant is the place to go if you’re a vegetarian or vegan. The cozy outdoor tables will welcome your pooch to dine with you. Or, maybe you’re in the mood for some grilled seafood, steaks, and more at Malibu Grill, which also offers outdoor seating.
If you love getting some unique treats for your furry pal, then the N Van Buren Street area of Nashville, Indiana, is right up your alley. The neighborhood is about 18.5 miles from Columbus and is the home of the Bone Appetit Bakery, which offers tons of flavorful treats for your dog. Some even match your dog’s special dietary needs! Nashville also has a few paw-friendly restaurants, like Brozinni Pizzeria, which has a few tables outside that welcomes your dog to dine with you. You can also head to the Nashville General Store & Bakery for baked goodies for humans and yummy breakfast foods.
