The city of Afton, located east of St. Paul, is a quaint 19th-century community on the banks of the St. Croix River. In this delightful area, you and Fido will be able to explore an amazing park, enjoy the scenic  bluffs, and hike a pawtastic trail through the St. Croix River Valley.

Take Fido on a pawesome adventure in St Croix Bluffs Regional Park, located about eight miles south of Afton. Leashed dogs are allowed on the trails in this 579-acre wilderness area. You can also bring your boat and get out on the river with your pup from the launch site in the park.

Another spectacular area to explore with your pooch is the Carpenter Nature Center, just over ten miles south of downtown Afton. This outdoor paradise in the St Croix River Valley has over ten miles of trails for you and your pooch to investigate. Make sure to keep your furry pal on a leash and to pick up any messes.

You can give your pup a special treat at Northern Stars K-9 Resort and Spa. This facility has a therapeutic resistance swimming pool for dogs. Let your pup get some non-weight bearing exercise in the warm water for 15, 30, or 45 minutes. Northern Stars is about 6.7 miles southwest of downtown Afton.

Dogs are welcome in state parks, provided they're kept on a leash up to six feet long. To get out on the water with your special pal, check out the public boat launch at Windmill Marina. If you're looking for a trail, take Fido to Crocker Park and hop on the Afton to Lakeland Trail. This level, four-mile pathway winds through residential areas from Lakeland, through St Marys Point, then heads out into wooded areas on the way to Afton. Dogs  can join you on this trail if they're on a leash and you pick up their messes.
