Windcrest City Center
Whether you live in the area or you are just passing through, Windcrest’s Takas Park is the perfect place to visit with the entire family, including the four-legged members. It features walking and jogging trails along the Rosales Creek, as well as a playground for your two-legged kids to enjoy. Shade shelters are also available to help you stay cool on hot summer days. There is also a scenic pond surrounded by a concrete path. Benches, trash receptacles and dog stations are located around the pond’s perimeter. There is plenty of shade, and the pond is kept stocked with several species of fish.36

Windy Hollow
Windcrest’s Windy Hollow neighborhood is located just south of Takas Park, and is home to the end of one of the area’s most beautiful trails. The trail, thanks to a grant from the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department, runs from this neighborhood all the way to Takas Park. When your dog needs to get out and stretch his legs, take him for a walk along the trail and enjoy its bridges and benches along the way. Whether you take a quick jaunt or a leisurely stroll, both you and your dog will enjoy spending time on this scenic trail.

West Windcrest
If you’re traveling along Interstate 410 on the west side of Windcrest and need a place to spend the night with your canine companion, stop at Drury Inn & Suites San Antonio Northeast. This highly rated hotel welcomes up to two pets of any size for an additional fee per night. Pets must be crated or leashed when outside the room. Well-behaved, quiet dogs may be left unattended in your room for up to 30 minutes, except between the hours of 10 pm and 8 am. There is a large lawn to let your furry travelmate stretch his legs.12

Northcliff
Schertz, Texas is located just 9 miles northeast of Windcrest, and it’s definitely worth the short drive. This area’s Northcliff neighborhood is home to the popular Schertz Dog Park. Located behind the Schertz Fire Department, this quiet dog park is a peaceful retreat for pups and their parents. The park only spans about half an acre, but is fully fenced-in to give your dog an area to run and play off-leash. With separate areas for large and small dogs, pets of all sizes can feel safe while playing. Benches provide dog lovers with a place to rest while their dogs frolic. The dog park is open from dusk to dawn daily.

Pat Booker Rd / E Langley Blvd
If you are looking for a place to have a tail-wagging good time with your canine companion, head to Universal City’s Pat Booker Rd / E Langley Blvd neighborhood. Located just over 6 miles northeast of Windcrest, this area is home to the Universal City Dog Park. This park features separate areas for large and small dogs. A walking path is located inside the large dog area. There are also two large watering stations and a doggy playhouse. The park is fenced in for safe off-leash play, and there are benches and picnic tables where pet parents can relax and watch their dogs. Trees scattered throughout the park offer ample shade for sunny days.
