Downtown San Antonio
Just a short 20-minute drive outside of Elmendorf, downtown San Antonio is arguably one of the most dog-friendly neighborhoods in the area. The entire River Walk is dog-friendly, although your pup must be leashed. The River Walk offers a scenic view of the San Antonio River which simply can’t be missed. You can also head over to Madison Square Dog Park for some off-leash fun. This pawesome dog park has nearly an acre of space dedicated to your furry friend, plus doggie drinking fountains and benches. As the day winds down, you and your pup can venture to one of the 14 dog-friendly restaurants in the area! No matter what you end up doing, downtown San Antonio will not disappoint.36

Alamo Heights
This up-and-coming neighborhood has a number of things to offer its visitors, dog and human alike, and it’s less than 30 minutes away from Elmendorf. In fact, there may be more puppy-centric amenities than human! Though there aren’t any dedicated dog parks in this neighborhood/incorporated city, there are four dog-friendly restaurants, plus two of the top-rated pet boutiques in the San Antonio area: Pet Works and Fifi & Fido’s. Not only is Fifi & Fido’s a pet boutique, but it is also a holistic nutrition center and features an in-store bakery. Alamo Heights certainly can’t be missed!24

Churchill Forest
In northern San Antonio, ruffly a 25-minute drive from Elmendorf, you'll find one of San Antonio’s best dog parks: Phil Hardberger Dog Park. Featuring separate, fenced-in small and large dog areas, this park is perfect for any sized pup and their two-legged companion. In addition, there are several trails surrounding the park, making this park perfect for anyone hoping to get some exercise in with their pup. Plus, there are a number of benches and watering stations scattered throughout the park. Lastly, should your pup get into anything naughty, there’s a rinsing station available for use before you head home. You definitely won’t be disappointed with all Mission Trace has to offer!12

Hill Country
A 25-minute drive to the northeast side of San Antonio will bring you to the charming neighborhood of Hill Country. Perhaps the greatest attraction of this area is the expansive Comanche Lookout Park, located just south of the neighborhood’s border. This park features nearly five miles of hiking trails, so you and your furry friend will have endless fun here. There’s also a playground and 14 picnic units scattered throughout the park as well! Not only do the trails provide numerous scenic views, but they also offer a variety of terrain and elevation changes. Although, nothing can beat the view from the top, something you and your four-legged friend will surely remember for years to come.
