In Chicago’s South Side lies Bronzeville, a neighborhood with many attractions and three furbulous dog parks! Bronzeville Dog Park #590 is easy to walk to, offers ample on-street parking, and is pawfect for early morning and evening romps, as well as anything in between. Late-night playtimes are also possible in this well-lit park.
Got a runner on your hands? A six-foot fence with a double safety gate prevents runaways in this pupperdise! While a leash should stay on while getting to the dog park, once you are past the gates, you can set your doggo free to romp and play with other neighborhood pups. The park features benches where pup parents can relax while keeping a watchful eye on their fur babies. Two dual water fountains offer plenty of hydration, though you may want to bring your own in the winter months when several Chicago parks turn off their water for the season.
Separate play sections for large dogs and their smaller cousins means everyone can play comfortably on a mixed surface of sand, gravel and grassy areas. A few trees on the perimeter offer some shade, and clean-up bag stations stand conveniently near the entrance. Always be considerate and pick up your pooch’s waste, discarding it in one of the trash containers.
To access this furbulous canine hot spot, you'll need to obtain a permit and wearable tag for your dog to wear along with their current ID and rabies tags. These annual passes cost $10 and are available from participating Chicagoland veterinary offices. Unfurtunately, day or visitor passes are not available, but there are discounts for seniors and others. There’s a list of participating offices from the Chicago Park District Office. Pups’ personal vets can also obtain permits for their patients by calling 312-742-4687.
Be sure your fur buddy maintains good dog park manners, and you are courteous in your interactions with both dogs and people. And always keep your dog leashed when entering and exiting the fenced in dog park, and anywhere outside of it.
Small dog parks are growing in number in Chicago in response to neighborhoods’ needs. Come on down and check out Bronzeville #590 with your dog today!
