Description

Chicago is a city of distinctive neighborhoods, and one of the most interesting is Bronzeville in Southside a few blocks from Lake Michigan. The neighborhood has a long, fascinating cultural history and features parks, museums, and historic homes. In 2019, the city added the pupular Bronzeville Dog Park #591, to the delight of Bronzeville’s dogs and dog lovers. Transformed from an empty lot, this urban doggie playground is easily accessible by foot, with ample parking on surrounding streets.

Nestled on about ⅓ acre, this neat, compact pupperdise is fully fenced with security gates, and is big enough to allow doggos to sprint, wrestle, and chase to their hearts' content! There’s also a section for small pups who aren’t comfortable around bigger dogs. Benches have been placed to help you keep an eye on your fur baby and socialize with other pet parents. While there are small trees in the park, most of it is in full sun on nice days so be prepared with sunscreen. Two dual water fountains keep humans and fur babies well-hydrated.

Separate sections of artificial turf, mulch/dirt, and pavement of asphalt, brick, and cement promise efficient drainage in wet weather. A waste bag station and trash receptacles located near the main gate make it easy to pick up your pooch’s poop, but it’s a good idea to carry a couple of bags in case the supply runs low. This doggy playground is clean and well-maintained with the help of people whose dogs enjoy frolicking there.

A sign at the entrance lists park rules, including a rabies tag, registration tag, and a city Dog-Friendly Area (DFA) tag on each dog's collar. The original DFA permit should be carried by the pup's person and can be gotten from participating Chicagoland veterinary offices. It ensures all dogs using the city's parks are healthy and fully vaccinated. Proper dog park etiquette is expected, too.

Chicago’s dog-friendly reputation is growing as it responds to the need for neighborhood off-leash dog areas. If  Fido's looking for exercise and fun, head on over to Bronzeville Dog Park #591!
