All dogs love being able to move freely, even those who walk nicely on a leash. So make your pup’s day by taking them to the Horner Park Dog Park for some off-leash fun. Tucked in the southern end of Horner Park, this designated Dog Friendly Area (DFA) features furbulous amenities for canine visitors to enjoy!
Spanning three-quarters of an acre, the Horner Park Dog Park offers plenty of room for dogs of all sizes to run. It is divided into two sections, one for small pooches and another for big pups, both of which are fully fenced and double-gated for security. Wee woofers are welcome in the big dog area, but the small dog area is strictly for canines who weigh 30 pounds or less. And as with any DFA in Chicago, your pooch will need a permit and tag before they can hang out here.Â
Inside the dog park are shade trees, benches, and a water fountain. During the summer, four-legged visitors can cool off in a water play area complete with sprinklers and kiddie pools—what a treat! Waste bags are provided, though everyone is encouraged to help keep the bag holder stocked. Pups and pet parents alike like the wood chip surface as it is softer on the paws, but it can get muddy when it rains, so you'll want to go on a dry day.
If your pup still has energy to burn after playing in the off-leash area, take them for a spin around the rest of dog-friendly Horner Park. As one of the North Side’s most spacious parks, there's certainly a lot to explore! The paved path, which forms a giant figure eight, is a pupular spot for dog walking. You may also encounter cyclists or people on roller blades, so make sure your pup minds their leash manners and yields as appropriate. A couple laps around the park will definitely give your pooch a great workout.
No bones about it, your furry friend will go mutts for the Horner Park Dog park!
