Jackson Park is the third largest park in the Chicago Park District, boasting 543 acres of land right on the shores of Lake Michigan. The park is teeming with beautiful nature and recreational opportunities. In this park you’ll find a beach, extravagant gardens, trails, indoor and outdoor fitness facilities, and even a dog park! There is truly a treat for everyone here, whether you want to commune with nature, get some invigorating exercise, or meet some new furry friends.
The dog park, known as Jackson Bark, is located just south of the Museum of Science and Industry. This dog park is four abandoned tennis courts converted into a puppy paradise, and the largest 100% enclosed dog park in the city. The park provides a safe place for pups to enjoy some pawsitive socialization and burn off some energy in glorious off-leash freedom. The park provides everything you could need, including loads of toys, a swimming pool, agility equipment, and drinking water. There are two separate fenced off areas, one for socialized dogs, and one for more shy or timid dogs. The dog park has free parking, is open until 11pm, and is well lit after dusk. You’re sure to have one tuckered out pup after all that playtime!
If Fifi would like to see what’s on the other side of the fences, she can explore the rest of the outdoor areas of Jackson Park on-leash as long as they stay leashed, picked up after, and on good behavior. Dogs are not allowed in the designated swimming areas of the beach, but are allowed on the rocky areas if they want to take a swim. If you’d like to go for a run or even a stroll with your canine companion, you can make use of the many trails. The Chicago Lakefront Trail is an 18 mile multi-use trail that passes through Jackson Park along the shore. You won’t want to miss the Garden of the Phoenix, a Japanese style garden located on Wooded Island within the park. There are also meadows, and vegetables and flower gardens, where you and your best pal can enjoy the sights and smells.
The rest of the park features athletic fields and courts, indoor multi-purpose rooms, clubhouses, and more. With the seemingly endless amount of woofderful things to do in Jackson Park, it gets families raving and tails wagging every time!
