You can catch some waves, if you hang out on the surfboard, or just enjoy the beach and help your kids by building moats for their sand castles. Bring a picnic and enjoy lunch seaside. There is so much to do and see right here on this beach!

Ahupua'a O Kahana State Park is just the place to take your dog to explore the island. Kapa‘ele‘ele Trail is the pawfect circle trail that leads your through the state park and allows you to take in the beauty of nature. It is absolutely breathtaking -- but, then again, the whole island is. What makes this worth the 40-minute drive is that it allows you to see the historical side of the island and teaches you the history as well as the beauty. So come and enjoy nature and learn what makes this part of the world special by learning about how humans transformed the island.

Mililani Dog Park is only about 20 miles from Pupukea, but it has everything you need for a great day of fun. Not only can you take Fido’s leash off and let him run within the safety of the fenced-in area, but you’ll have plenty of places to sit and watch him play. There are water fountains for you and your dog so that you can both stay hydrated as you run, play, and have fun. Isn’t this what being in paradise is all about? Your dog will love all the op-paw-tunities to make a few new friends, and you’ll love the safety of the whole area.

Waimalu

You may have to drive 28 miles inland, but Big City Diner is the absolute pawfect place to get some classic Hawaiian fare. You are invited to join your dogs on the patio to enjoy the fresh air and the best food in the area. It is a little off the beaten path that most tourists take, and the locals of the area will tell you it is the place to go for authentic food. So grab your dog and his leash, and come on down for some great food and even better service!

Aiea

The Alley at Aiea Bowl is almost half an hour from Pupukea, but it’s more than worth the drive. Yes, this is a bowling alley set up for the dogs to enjoy the night playing with their friends, but there is a dining place that will leave you both begging for more! Join your dog at an outdoor table so that you can watch the people as they come in and out. The Asian-inspired dishes smell as good as they taste. This establishment has been featured on Food Network and has won multiple awards, so it’s definitely worth the drive to get this puptastic food!
