Dog Areas in Glenville

1 Trail

Sitting at the fork of two creeks in the bucolic Pennsylvania countryside, there’s no denying that Glenville, PA is a beautiful place. This peaceful, rural community is also of some historical interest -- it’s home to a mill dating all the way back to 1792. The Stone Mill has been converted into a venue that’s now very popular for weddings, and it’s easy to see why -- Glenville’s natural surroundings are stunning, and ideal for photographs of your special day. More importantly, though, the area is home to some fantastically fur-friendly hiking routes for you and your pooch to sniff and explore! Unfortunately, there’s no veterinary clinic in Glenville, but you’ll find several clinics in nearby Glen Rock.

Glenville is a little too small to sustain its own dog run or community park, but you and your four-legged friend can still dig up something to do! The area is surrounded by scenic state parks and shaded wooded trails that are positively pawfect for leashed walks. You might need to drive a little to get the best for your buddy, but you’ll find plenty of options for off-leash exercise and doggy dining just a little fur-ther afield!

Codorous State Park in Glen Rock is a real mutts-visit. It should come as no surprise that this preserve is a popular spot for camping -- you and your pooch could spend days or weeks exploring the wilderness around the vast Lake Marburg. There’s a trail here for every ability, too, from the fittest furry friend to the least athletic animal. Take heed, though -- dogs are only allowed in certain areas of the park, and you and your pooch will need to stick to the shoreline. No swimming! You’ll find several water stations dotted around the park, but remember to bring your own bags and bowls.

The Heritage Rail Trail County Park makes for a furrific day out for outdoorsy dogs and cultured canines alike! A converted railway line once used to transport soldiers to and from Gettysburg, the trail runs from York City to the Maryland state line, passing through wooded wonderland, pretty pastoral views, and historic Civil War sites. There are several entry points along the way, but it’s worth stopping or starting in New Freedom so that you and your pooch can fuel up at the New Freedom Rail Trail Cafe. This delightfully rustic restaurant serves up a truly special shrimp salad, and welcomes wagging tails at outdoor tables.

The West Manheim Dog Park is a great spot to let your furry friend run free! This pawesome park is one of the largest in the area, with plenty of space in both the large and small dog sections for your pooch to leap about and tire themselves out. Bags and water are provided, so all you need to do is bring your fur ball and some toys and prepare to play! Be careful, though -- the surface of the park is entirely made up of grass, so you might want to bring a towel in case your buddy gets muddy.

While the Glen Rock Dog Park isn’t quite as big as the one at West Manheim, it’d still be a huge faux paw not to visit! Like the West Manheim park, there’s a separate run for small dogs, so your pooch can socialize no matter their size. Everything you need in terms of water and bags is provided on-site, so you two can enjoy an enthusiastic game of catch or tug-of-war without being laden down by bottles! Unlike the park at West Manheim, though, this off-leash area doesn’t get much shade, so you might want avoid it on a hot summer’s day.

Make no bones about it -- your buddy will go barking mad for a treat from The Boy’s Barking Bakery in York! This fabulous, locally owned dog cafe serves the best doggy delights in the area, with everything from watermelon flavored summer bones to peanut butter birthday cakes on the menu. Afterwards, you two can burn it all off with a leashed stroll along the creek in Bantz Park.
