The village of Homer Glen, located about 32 miles southwest of Chicago in Will County, is a pawtastic place for you and Fido to explore. With six community parks, an extensive trail system, and a forest preserve area, there are numerous opportunities for you and your furry friend to get out and enjoy nature.

Head over to Culver Park with your pup to connect with the Heroes Trail System. This multi-use path includes several segments that link to other parks in the city. Dogs are permitted on the trail as long as they're kept on a leash. Make sure you pick up your pup's waste when using the trail, and you'll also want to bring some drinking water along.

When you want to enjoy a special treat with your canine companion, go to the Iron Horse Creamery. Enjoy a burger or hot dog and some refreshing ice cream for dessert while Fido lounges at your feet. This park has plenty to offer humans, including 35 acres of sports fields, pavilions, restrooms, and even concession stands. Dogs on leashes are permitted on the walking path and in the turf areas of the park. Make sure you pick up any waste. Since this isn't a designated dog park, you'll need to bring all the necessary supplies, like doggie waste bags and drinking water.

Head to the Hadley Valley Preserve (Bruce Road Access) to get some exercise and fresh air with your canine pal. This 726-acre facility includes wetlands, savanna, and forest areas. Go hiking or running with your pup on the 5.1-mile crushed limestone path that cuts across the preserve. You can also pack a lunch and have a picnic at the shelter in the park. Bring along a pole and try some fishing in the pond. Remember to keep Fido on a leash while in this area. When you want to give your pup some off-leash entertainment, head to the Trantina Dog Park, located between Cedar and Gougar Roads. This 2-acre facility  has benches and separate play areas for smaller and larger dogs. You can also leash up your pup and walk along the mowed trail that surrounds the dog park.

Head to Tampier Slough Woods, just north of Goodings Grove, and hike through the woods and wetlands around the Sag Valley Trail. This trail goes from Wolf Road, past Tampier Lake, and up around McGinty Slough. After you get some exercise, settle down for a picnic with your furry friend at the Tampier Greenway Family Picnic Area. Remember to keep your pup on a leash and to pick up any waste while visiting the facility.
