The relaxing suburb of Prior Lake is just 20 minutes south of Minneapolis, and features several lakes and parks where Fido will enjoy spending time. Right in the center of town, Lakefront Park is a wonderful destination for families and their four-legged companions. The park covers 130-acres and offers a trail system, fishing pier, and floating boardwalk. You and your pup can spend hours hiking along the trails admiring plants and wildlife while the teenagers have some fun on the hockey rink or soccer field. Younger kids can run around on the playground while you and Fido relax on a bench or the gazebo. If you are spending time at the park during the winter, you will enjoy the convenience of the warming house where your pup is welcome as long as he stays on his leash.

When going out for dinner with the family or friends, take your canine companion to Charlie’s on Prior where the beautiful views of the lake are as great as the food. There is wharf bar seating area where you and your pooch can relax and enjoy a drink. Another option is Trigger’s Bar and Restaurant at the Minnesota Horse and Hunt Club. Pups can dine with their owners at the outdoor tables, and dog bowls are provided by the friendly staff.

If Fido isn’t feeling well, there are four veterinary clinics in the area. These clinics provide routine and emergency care and will treat your pup like one of their own.

Whether you are visiting Prior Lake from Minneapolis, or you live in town full time, pups will love all of the pooch-friendly activities available any time of the year.

The Cleary Lake Regional Park features one of the best dog parks in the area. The 28-acre off-leash dog park is an amazing spot where your pup can run and play in a prairie type-setting. Pups who enjoy water will especially love the separate fenced pond area where your pooch can splash in the water or fetch a stick. The huge open space is great when your canine companion needs to run off some energy. While your pup is playing, sit on a shaded bench and chat with your neighbors, or walk laps around the perimeter of the park. There is fresh water available during the summer, and you need to make sure to clean up after your pup.
