The city of San Gabriel was incorporated in 1913 and was named after none other than the Archangel Gabriel. This city was founded by Father Junipero Serra, who also believed this city was the birthplace of California and believed it really was “a city with a mission”.

This world-famous neighborhood is just 11 miles from San Gabriel, and is home to the iconic Runyon Canyon Park. You'll have an excellent view of the famous Hollywood sign from this park, which makes it a pawpular tourist destination and the perfect place for a photo op! This 160-acre park has a huge off-leash dog park for your dog to explore, but leashed canines are welcome in all areas of the park. The park offers waste stations and water along the hiking trails for your convenience. Another great place to visit in this neighborhood is Wattles Garden Park. This park sits outside of the Wattles Mansion and is a beautiful area to bring your dog. Grab your pup's leash and enjoy the beautiful scenery as you and Fido explore the parks of Hollywood Hills!
If you are looking for a nice hike with your pooch, this huge park has just the trail for you! The Mount Hollywood Trail located in Griffith Park is about 16 miles from San Gabriel. This trail requires that your pup stay on their leash for the entire walk. The trail is 3 miles long and there are places along the trail to stop and take a break. You can grab a bite to eat or use the restroom at these stops. It's a good idea to make use of these facilities, since there is not much shade along this trail. You will want to bring supplies for cleaning up after your pooch and some extra water for those hot days! Your canine pal will love the different scents he will pick up on this scenic trail.
If you are looking for a great place to shop with your canine pal, this neighborhood has the best place! The Grove is a huge area where you and your furry friend can shop until you drop! Many shops here allow your dog to accompany you, as long as your pal stays on their leash. If you get hungry, there are also dog-friendly restaurants and little shops in this shopping plaza. You will need to pack supplies for cleaning up after your dog and also bring water in case your pooch gets thirsty. It's time to treat yourself, so grab your shopping bags and head on out to The Grove!

Elysian Park is a huge piece of land where you and your pooch can explore to your hearts' content. You will need to keep your pooch on his leash while visiting this massive 570-acre park. There are dirt-covered trails for you to enjoy and plenty of shade from the trees along the trails. Be sure to bring plenty of water and supplies for cleaning up after your pooch. Come out for a day in nature to renew your spirits! Taco trucks are a common sight in the Echo Park neighborhood, so grab one if you get hungry!
This pawtastic neighborhood is located 6 miles from San Gabriel, in Pasadena. It's home to Alice's Dog Park, which is 2.5 acres of fenced-in enjoyment for your canine friend! You'll need to show proof of current vaccinations and obtain a license for your dog. Your furry friend will love the soft grass under their paws and taking a nap under the shade trees. There is plenty of room to run around and explore on their own or make some new canine friends. Your pup won't get thirsty because there are water fountains to drink from. This park is perfect for owners, too! There is plenty of parking and several benches to sit on and watch your pup play. Waste bags are provided, so you don't have to bring anything except for plenty of energy!
