Montebello Hills is at the northern tip of Montebello and has some of the best scenery among Montebello’s neighborhoods, from the Rio Hondo river to the distant mountains. The best part of this beautiful community is the Lario San Gabriel River Trail, a multi-use trail that runs along the Rio Hondo. The 35.4-mile trail is welcome to all dogs as long as they remain on a leash, and has water spots for dogs and their humans at the trailheads. Although long, the trail is made up of nature trails with stunning views of the surrounding mountains and natural wildlife.

West Whitten Boulevard
The West Whitten Boulevard neighborhood is home to Saybrook Park, a busy center for many of the residents of the Montebello community. The park is open to dogs on leashes and has many amenities for them and their owners from dusk until dawn. The open play area is great to run around and play with your dog, and features a small walking trail along the outside of the park. It’s a peaceful place to go for a short walk or play, or a place to be able just to get out and enjoy some fresh air. Some special extras for dog-lovers coming to the park are the accessible doggy-bag stations and multiple water fountains stationed around the park.

Whittier Boulevard
The Whittier Boulevard neighborhood is in the southern part of Montebello and is home to one of the more prominent parks in the city. Montebello City Park can get quite busy with people, kids and tons of other dogs. It’s an excellent opportunity to let your dog socialize with other dogs, sniff, and play. The open fields in the park are a great place to play, and the trails going in and out of the park, as well as around the perimeter of the park, are perfect for an afternoon stroll. This park does have an amphitheater, and hosts community events, so keep an eye on the schedule if your pup is a shy guy.

The Whittier Narrows Natural Area is a great place to go outside of the city for dog-lovers of Montebello. The natural retreat is located in the nearby town of Whittier, only a few miles from the center of Montebello. With 419 acres of natural land, the area boasts long hiking trails, mountains, and the San Gabriel River. The best part about is that dogs are allowed on the hiking trails, so long as they remained leashed at all times. You can choose from a short run on the .4-mile trail, or a long walk on the 18-mile trail and afterward head back to the area’s discovery center to get some water from the public drinking fountains.
