Dog Areas in Chesapeake City

Chesapeake City is a small town in Cecil County, Maryland with plenty of Chesapeake flavor! History buffs love Chesapeake City, as it has a 165-year-old working canal that connects the Chesapeake Bay to the Delaware Bay. Guided tours of the historic district in town are also available, and there are even some all-outdoor tours where well-mannered pups are able to come along!

This area is home to places like Back Creek, which runs through the middle of the town. Your dog will feel right at home sniffing and splashing away by the creek and others nearby. Right outside of town is the Canal Wildlife Management Area, where you will find plenty of hiking and fishing areas where your dog is welcome to join you on-leash. You can bring some other two-legged friends, too, and have a picnic in the open grassy area.

While you are exploring Chesapeake City's history, it is worth sniffing out the restored tobacco plantation that dates back to 1651. Guided tours and self-guided tours of the nature trails are open on certain days of the week all year round as long as the weather is favorable. There is one animal hospital right in Chesapeake City where you will find stellar care to keep your dog happy and healthy at every life stage.

Chesapeake City is a small town, but there are a handful of parks that are great for dog walkers. Ferryslip Road Park is a large open green space with lots of room to roam and run around to your heart's content. You'll need your waste bags and a way to carry them until you get to a trash can, as the walking paths can be a bit spread out in the area. Chesapeake City Park is a wonderful place to be a pup if you are looking for a small and well-tended park to visit with your dog. Don't forget to bring some treats along!

White Swan Lake is both the name of this pupperific little town and the large lake that rests in the middle of it. This town is great for commuters who need a location that gives them easy access to both Maryland and Delaware. You can visit the town's lake on hot days for an easy way to beat the heat within walking distance of most of the homes in the area. You will want to bring some dry towels with you in case your pup gets overly excited when he gets a whiff of the sparkling water in front of him!

    #3 Elk Neck State Forest

Elk Neck State Forest is just thirty minutes from Chesapeake City. This huge state park is a puptastic place to go for a day or weekend of getting back to basics with nature. You can get out your dog's favorite harness for a full day of hiking fun, or you can throw a tent in the back of your car for a camping trip in the designated camping areas. If you plan on staying in the park for any length of time, you will also want a good flea and tick prevention routine, as the thick woods can bring unwanted visitors to your dog's attention!
