This neighborhood is home to Locust’s one off-leash dog run. Located within Locust Park, this dog run includes a big fenced area where dogs of all sizes can play together. Be sure to bring water with you when you’re playing here. After your pup is finished at the dog park, put their leash back on and take them for a stroll on Locust Park’s shady walking paths. If you’re hungry after your walk, head to Tailgator’s Sports Grill. Sit at one of their pet-friendly outdoor tables, and enjoy their signature gator tail poppers, burgers, pizzas, wraps, quesadillas, wings, and more.

Morrow Mountain

Morrow Mountain

Looking for a great place to hike with your dog? Check out Morrow Mountain State Park! This park is 22 miles from Locust, and it has tons of trails to explore with your pup. If you’d like to trek up Fall Mountain, try the 4.1-mile Fall Mountain Trail. From the top of this mountain, you’ll get amazing views of the park and its surrounding area. If you’d rather do a shorter hike with your pup, hop on the 1.3-mile Rocks Trail. This trail takes you through beautiful woodland, and it ends at a rocky outcrop where you’ll get great views of the Pee Dee River. No matter which trail you choose, you and your dog are sure to have fun here!

Third Ward

Third Ward is an urban Charlotte neighborhood with an off-leash area your dog is sure to love: Frazier Dog Park. Located 26 miles from Locust, this off-leash park has separate areas for large and small dogs to play in. Both areas are fully fenced, and a doggy water fountain is available for thirsty pups. After the park, continue your fun day out with a snack or lunch at VBGB Beer Hall and Garden. This laid-back pub allows dogs in their outdoor area, which features tons of games and water bowls for pups. While you’re relaxing on the patio, you can enjoy burgers, brats, kabobs, and signature sandwiches.

Whispering Oaks

Whispering Oaks

When you’re in Whispering Oaks, you won’t want to miss Reedy Creek Park and Nature Preserve. Located 22 miles from Locust, this park has an off-leash area your pup will love. This area includes one four-acre fenced field where pups can run, play, and make new friends. If your dog gets thirsty, water is available. After your dog is finished running around, put their leash back on and go for a stroll on one of the nature preserve’s beautiful trails. The preserve has over 10 miles of trails that take you through a peaceful forest and around lovely ponds and creeks.

If you’re searching for another pawsitively amazing park for your pup, try Harrisburg Park. This park is 17 miles from Locust, and it allows dogs on-leash. While you’re here, you and your dog can go for a leisurely stroll on Harrisburg Park’s paved walking path. This path is 0.4 miles long, and it takes you through the woods and around the park’s sports fields. If you’re hungry after your walk, head to Hawthorne’s NY Pizza and Bar. This pizzeria allows dogs at their outdoor tables, and they’ll bring your dog a bowl of water. While your dog enjoys their water, you can dine on customizable and specialty pizzas, strombolis, calzones, and pasta dishes.
