Central
Right in the heart of North Bergen is North Bergen Dog Run, a dog park that locals are barking mad about! This popular spot features separate areas for large and small dogs, allowing your pet to feel comfortable around pups his own size. With plenty of room to run around, your dog is sure to burn off all that excess energy and get in his daily exercise. Locals advise that this park isn’t for those who don’t want Fido getting dirty; there’s a lot of dirt. However, there are faucets to hose down your dog. This is an off-leash dog park.

Located just under two miles from North Bergen is West New York. In West New York – which is actually in New Jersey – you’ll find Donnelly Memorial Park Dog Run, which is an off-leash dog park. There are separate sections for large and small dogs, plenty of seats in the shade, and, to top it all off, a beautiful view of the Manhattan skyline. There are also a couple of restaurants nearby, Cavalinos Restaurant and Waterside Restaurant, where dogs are welcome to join you at outdoor seating. A leash is required at both restaurants.

The Heights
If you head just 20 minutes southeast of North Bergen, you’ll land in Hoboken’s The Heights neighborhood, where you can find Viaduct Dog Park. Viaduct Dog Park is a small, fenced-in dog run, complete with agility equipment and a doggy water fountain. Nearby is 1600 Park, a multi-use park that has a separate, miniature dog park built into it. While your dog can be off his leash in that section, a leash is required for Fido to see the rest of the park. So what are you waiting for? Grab your pup and his leash, and get moving to The Heights!

Located 20 minutes northwest of North Bergen is Leonia, where you’ll find Overpeck Park Dog Run, and although it might be a mouthful to say, your pooch will thank you! This dog park features plenty of space for your dog to run around, and there are separate areas for small and large dogs. There’s also plenty of seating for pup parents, complete with a ton of shade. Fido is also welcome to explore the rest of Overpeck Park, but a leash is required once you leave the fenced-in dog park.

If you head north from North Bergen, traveling about three miles, you’ll hit Edgewater, where you’ll find plenty of places to be a chow-hound with your four-legged pal. Feeling fancy? Try La Vecchia Napoli, an upscale Italian eatery where your pet can join you outside during the warmer months. Space is limited, though, and with just 7 tables outside, it’s recommended you call ahead to see if a table is available. Want some more casual?
