Thank you for taking care of my babies. Kya really went above and beyond and I want to give her credit publicly for doing so! My younger dog was beginning to get separation anxiety and started to make a mess after. Kya, who really could have just walked them and left it be, took great effort to clean up the mess that my youngest dog made! Downtown Powell

One of the pawpular places to hang with your dog in Powell is at the Powell Station Park. This park is located within the downtown area, and has something in it for everyone, including a skate park, playground, and splash pad. There are also restrooms and picnic areas available. For some fresh air and exercise, you can enjoy the paved loop that circles the park, continues over the creek and connects to the Powell Greenway. From here the adventure continues! The Greenway provides a safe place for residents and their furry friends to walk in nature. It connects from Powell High School to Powell Middle School. Leashed dogs are welcome in all these areas as long as they get picked up after!

Fountain City

In the neighboring city of Knoxville, you can find plenty more places to play and explore with your doggo! One of these puppy paradises is the PetSafe Village within Tommy Schumpert Park. PetSafe Village is a dog park with two separate fenced off areas, one for small dogs, and one for breeds of all shapes and sizes. Features include benches, a mulch walking trail, and a pond to splash and play in. Drinking water and waste bags are included, but don’t forget your dog’s favorite ball and some towels! The surrounding Tommy Schumpert Park welcomes leashed dogs as well, and features athletic fields and a walking path.

Windsor Park

Another great place for your pup to burn some energy is at Dogwood Park, located in the Windsor Park neighborhood of Knoxville. This dog park is only about 10 minutes away from Powell, and provides a safe place for your dog to get some much needed exercise, and enjoy some pawsitive socialization. This dog park is located in the east end of the Victor Ashe Park, and features a fenced, one acre off leash section. There is a puppy playground here too, where your pooch can practice his agility! Drinking water and waste stations are available, so all you need to bring is your playful pup. The surrounding 120 acre park also welcomes leashed dogs, and features a lovely walking trail.

Rivers Run

Directly west of Powell, in the Rivers Run neighborhood of Oak Ridge, you can find an escape into the Great Outdoors. It’s this neighborhood that is proud home to the Haw Ridge Park, just a 15 minute drive from Powell. This riverfront park is located on a peninsula that juts out into Clinch River. There are almost 30 miles of trails weaving throughout this park that are well used by trail runners, mountain bikers and dog walkers. There is something here for dogs and humans of all fitness levels, including a paved walking path that leads right down to the river. Leashed dogs are welcome to join their two-legged friends, as long as they leave only paw prints!

North Knoxville

Southeast of Powell, in the city of Knoxville, you can find another great place to explore in the wilderness with your pooch. In the neighborhood of North Knoxville sits the woofderful Sharp’s Ridge Memorial Park, under a 20 minute drive from Powell. This 115 acre park features plenty of trails and picnic areas. Probably the most exciting part is the overlook that offers one of the city’s best views of the Smoky Mountains. There is even a platform with signage identifying each of the mountain peaks. When your stomach is growling, head over to the Hexagon Brewing Company, just north of the park. They offer an array of limited addition brews, tasty eats, and dog friendly outdoor seating.
