There, you and Fido will find Christine Lyday Park, a woofderful community green space perfect for playtime with your pooch. This two-acre park has a huge open grassy area where you and your dog can walk or play, plus mature trees accompanied by a few picnic tables. There’s a playground where kiddos can burn off some energy, too. Christine Lyday Park also has a basketball court and restrooms. If you and your pup are visiting the area and need a fur-iendly hotel, the Holiday Inn Express Hotel and Suites Vernon College is also in this neighborhood! Pets are welcome in their clean and updated rooms for a small fee.

South Vernon

Aptly named for the rock ‘n’ roll pioneer and native Vernonite, Roy Orbison, the South Vernon neighborhood’s Orbison Park is a pawsome place to visit with your pooch! The eight-acre park has tons of open grassy play space where you and your leashed dog can frolic. There are lots of huge shady trees where you and your pup can chill out on those warm Texas days, plus picnic tables and a gazebo. The park is also a pawpular spot for birdwatching and two-legged children will have a blast on the playground. This neighborhood is also home to a furrific hotel, the Days Inn Vernon, in case you and Fido need a place to curl up overnight!

East Vernon

Looking for a furrific spot for a picnic? Head to East Vernon! This area’s D.L. Green Park has several covered picnic tables spread throughout the three-acre park, providing a nice shady reprieve for you and your leashed dog when the weather gets hot! D.L. Green Park also has a large grassy lawn, plus playground equipment for any two-legged children you may have along with you and your pup. There are benches, restrooms and mature trees around the park, too. Traveling with your dog and need fur-iendly accommodations? Check out the neighborhood’s Hotel Vernon, where pooches of any size are welcome in their clean and updated rooms for a nominal fee.

Central Vernon

Visit the Central Vernon neighborhood for a puptastic place to stretch your legs with your pooch! This neighborhood is home to the four-acre Allingham Park, where there’s lots of open grass for you and your leashed dog to play, plus a multi-purpose trail that’s great for walks! The park is dotted with big shady trees, plus there’s a playground, a volleyball court, picnic tables and fitness equipment. Allingham Park also has restrooms. After you and your pooch have had enough exercise, head to the nearby Chicken Shack! Your pup is welcome to join you at a table on the porch while you chow down on yummy favorites like wings, ribs, pork chops and sandwiches.

Southeast Vernon

If you and Fido are craving nothing but open space, the Southeast Vernon neighborhood is where you need to be! The area’s woofderful Sunshine Park is a two-acre expanse of lush grass where you and your leashed dog can walk, romp and play. It’s a pawpular spot for dog walking in Vernon, so you and your pup are likely to have fun socializing and making some new furry friends, too! There’s a few mature trees that provide shade around this park that is nestled in a quiet residential neighborhood.
