Kingman and Heritage Island Park is a great place to unwind and explore the beauty of nature with your pup. This beautiful preserve is comprised of two man-made islands and is surrounded by Lake Kingman and the Anacostia River. You and Fido can access this beautiful atoll by boat, but be aware of tidal changes. The islands are adjoined by a scenic boardwalk that doubles as the boat landing dock. This stunning landscape is perfect for photographers, offering a variety of wildlife to capture. There are several trails for you and your pet to choose from, but make sure he stays leashed at all times.

Northwest Washington
Northwest Washington is a great area for pet owners and is home to many dog-friendly restaurants and lodging options. While you’re in the area, be sure to check out Key Bridge Boathouse. Northeast Washington
Is your dog in need of a relaxing nature retreat? Northeast Washington has several pup-ortunities for just that! You and your pup will love a strolling around the beautiful aquatic gardens and reservoirs at Kenilworth Park. The Kenilworth Marsh is home to a wide variety of plants and animals and is perfect for bird enthusiasts! Leashed pets are also welcome at the 446 acres of gardens at the National Arboretum. Pets are not allowed on the tram, but guests are always welcome to walk or drive through the area with their fur children!

South Arlington
South Arlington is a wonderful neighborhood for dog lovers and has eight dog parks open from sunrise to sunset. Shirlington Dog Park is considered by many to be the best pup park around. This park is enormous and even has a stream for puppers to cool their paws in! Designated small and large dog areas keep the little ones protected while still allowing them to socialize. The entire park is leash-free and provides a safe place for city dogs to let loose. Glencarlyn Park is another great off-leash spot in the area and provides 95.5 acres of fun for the whole family. Amenities include picnic shelters, nature trails, and two playgrounds for the two-legged kiddos. Be sure to keep an eye on your pup when in the off-leash area; the park is not fenced!

Landmark Van Dorn
Landmark Van Dorn loves its dogs, and it really shows! The sheer number of dog-friendly amenities in the area is truly astounding. There are four neighborhood bark parks, and 17 in the surrounding city of Alexandria. Hoof’s Run Dog Park and Greenway is part of a 62.5-acre park system that connects 5 different recreational spaces. One of these spaces is Tarleton Park, an unfenced, off-leash expanse, perfect for high-energy puppers. Nearby Duke Street Park is another great off-leash bark park and is located on Holmes Run River. A gated entry leads to the river, where pets can frolic in the water to their hearts' content. The park has plenty of toys for its guests, but owners are advised to bring water for their furry companions.
