Carthage is a small town that knows what’s important. Though the population is less than 2,500 people, there’s an animal hospital right in town. Dog lovers will be pleased to hear no puppy splinter or sniffle will go ignored in Carthage. Besides the animal hospital, there are restaurants to visit and places your dog can spend the night with you!

When you’re visiting Carthage, be sure to look up the Pik N Pig! This home-style BBQ restaurant has twenty outdoor tables where your pup can join you for a tasty lunch or savory dinner of true North Carolina BBQ. If you don’t find yourself hungry enough for a full meal, you can visit the Buggy Town Cafe. This playful nod to the town’s history as the home of a buggy factory carries through the rest of their dishes: classic cafe favorites with a playful twist.

If you’re driving through in your RV, dogs are welcome in your campsite at Airport RV Campgrounds. Farm Pond Campground is another great choice for dog-friendly accommodations; check them out the next time you’re in Carthage! Whether you’re driving through or staying a while, Carthage has plenty to keep your tail wagging.

Moore County Parks and Recreation in this neighborhood is a surprisingly great park tucked away behind the offices for waste management disposal. The main feature is a large baseball diamond and small seating area around it, but there’s much more for your pup to explore. Hit the wide fields for a good walk! Your dog can enjoy tracking scents across the green fields. If you’re more of a jogger, the park is big enough that a couple of laps should be enough to get your blood pumping. This park is usually only busy when there’s a game scheduled in the diamond.

Dogs will love the latter, in addition to the wide green fields that stand out against the town backdrop. Dogs have to remain on leash in the park, and you should bring your own bowl to help them drink from the fountains. Other than that, there’s plenty to see, do, and sniff--all the ingredients for a great dog day!
