You and your pup will love visiting Dover, located in Tuscarawas County, 82 miles south of Cleveland, Ohio. Dover takes good care of local and visiting pets, with three vets and an animal hospital in town, help is close by should your beloved buddy fall ill.

Your first port of call here must be City Park, Dover’s prime green space, and a popular place for locals and visitors alike. There are three miles of easy trails here that your pup will love walking with you. Through the trees and across the Goettge Run Creek, there is plenty to see. City Park has ample open space, where you and your pup can stretch out for a packed lunch, throw around a ball or just relax in the sunshine for a while and admire the picturesque lake and fountain. A playground, amphitheatre, restrooms, ball courts, sports fields and tennis courts are also provided here.

Adjacent to City Park is Deis Hill and a great place for more walks – this one a little more challenging! Get those legs working as you climb the hill for a great view of the city. If you have kids with you (or are young at heart!) sledding is popular here.

Once you have worked up an appetite, head to East of Chicago Pizza, where your pup is welcome to join you at one of the outdoor tables. Tuck into a variety of Italian-style meals, including the classic pizza or pasta, or try a plate of wings, salads or a freshly made sub.

With beautiful parks, pet-friendly places to eat and a friendly atmosphere, you are both sure to have a great time in Dover.

The Canal Lands Park in the northeast of Dover is a great spot to jump onto the Zoar Valley Trail that runs 20 miles from Schoenbrunn to the Fort Laurens State Memorial in Bolivar. This trail is part of the Ohio & Erie Canal Towpath Trail network. There is plenty of parking here and information on the trail at the entrance. Keep a look out for the four disused canal locks and the Route 82 Bridge at Zoar, erected in 1883, and now a pedestrian bridge on the Zoar Valley Trail. Dogs are welcome to enjoy the trail with you, but keep your buddy on a leash at all times. Bring water, clean up bags and any food you might like along the way.

Take your pup for a walk over at the Dundee Falls Trail, just 11 miles north west of Dover. The 2.4 mile out-and-back trail showcases scenic landscapes of cliffs, a lake, creeks, and of course, the falls. Bring your camera as there are some spectacular photo opportunities along the way. Dogs must be kept leashed as they enjoy the trail with you, and make sure you clean up any waste your pup leaves. As the terrain can be a little rugged in places, wear appropriate footwear, bring plenty of water for you both and pack some bug spray in warmer weather. Please note, this is also a hunting area, so check the seasonal information before heading out.

Atwood Lake Park has something for everyone, even a designated off-leash area for your pup! The fenced area has benches for you to relax at while you supervise, waste disposal stations and water fountains for both humans and canines. Outside the dog park there is plenty more to see and do at Atwood Lake Park, including nature trails and hikes. Maps are available at the Activity Centre so you can plan your walk and make the most of your visit. There are many activities on offer here for the two-legged kids too, such as swimming at the lake beach, fishing, exploring the nature centre, having fun at the playground, or playing ball on the courts. There is a small gate fee, so bring some change.
