Great Barrington is a small mountain town that is surrounded by green peaks and gorgeous maples. Although little, the city has some big history, as it was the home of W. E. B. Du Bois, and has been given the award as the #1 "20 Best Small Towns in America" in 2012. This small town has some great things to boast about, but none of that compares to the popular, dog-friendly activities around town for Fido.
Monument Mountain features an accessible hiking trail system that goes up the mountain. The area has moderate to strenuous trails that are dog-friendly. Fido must remain on a leash, but can enjoy all the different paths, including one that leads up to the peak of Monument Mountain. There is a parking fee required before using the trails.
Want some more mountain hikes? Head over to the East Mountain State Forest, a large area of protected land that provides access to the portion of the Appalachian Trail leading to the peak of the East Mountain. The hikes here are moderate to strenuous, and allow Fido to come and join the hike while he remains on a leash. Owners will have to bring water and clean-up bags to both activities, as there is none available on the trails.
The city also has five veterinarians, which prove sthat Great Barrington is also #1 in dog-friendly towns, too.
