Algonquin State Forest
If you’re looking for a furtastic place to hike with your dog in Colebrook, try the 2,545-acre Algonquin State Forest. One of the most popular trails here is the White Trail. This scenic trail takes you through the woods, past the ruins of old settlers’ homes, and up a hill where you’ll get amazing views of the forest. Simsbury Center is a mostly residential neighborhood with plenty to offer its furry residents and visitors. One of the most popular places to go with dogs in this neighborhood is Paw Meadow Dog Park. Located 21 miles from Colebrook, this dog park has two separate sections: one for large dogs and one for small dogs that weigh 25 pounds or less. Both sections are double-gated, and they have plenty of trees to keep your dog shaded and cool on hot days. If your dog needs a drink while they’re playing, water is available in the dog park. Salmon Brook
When you’re in Salmon Brook, you won’t want to miss Granby Dog Park. This dog park is 22 miles from Colebrook, and it has one big fenced area where dogs can run and play. There’s also an unfenced brook behind the dog park where pups can go swimming. If your dog gets thirsty, the park has a water spigot you can use to fill up their bowl. After the park, continue your fun day out with lunch at Lite-N-Up Eatery. This casual café allows dogs at their outdoor tables, and they serve sandwiches, wraps, scones, cookies, and croissants. American Legion State Forest
Located eight miles from Colebrook, American Legion State Forest is a great place to take your dog for a long hike. This state forest has nine hiking trails to choose from, including the historic Henry Buck Trail. This 2.5-mile trail goes past the ruins of a cheese box mill, and it also takes you up the Tremendous Cliffs, where you’ll get stunning views of the forest. If you’re looking for a shorter hike, try the 1.5-mile Elliott Bronson Trail, which takes you up Rugged Mountain. Or, you could go for a leisurely stroll on the mostly flat 0.4-mile Turkey Vultures Ledges Trail. No matter which trail you choose, you and your dog are sure to have a pawsitively amazing time hiking here!

Northwest Harwinton
If you’re looking for another fun place to take your dog for an on-leash hike, check out Harwinton Recreation Area. This recreation area is 20 miles from Colebrook, and it has six hiking trails to explore with your pup. If you’d like to go on a hike along Leadmine Brook, try the 0.7-mile Yellow Trail. Or, if you’d rather go on a shorter but still scenic trek, go for the 0.5-mile Green Trail or Orange Trail. After the hike, your pup can swim and splash around in the recreation area’s pond.
